My first taste of the mysterious liquid

I had an amazing childhood, I guess this is one of the reasons I always find myself talking about it.
Growing up, I wouldn't call my parents all that rich but we were very comfortable, comfortable to afford most things that we wanted and needed.

I remember the first time I discovered coffee, well technically I didn't exactly know what it was.
When I was a little girl, my Dad traveled a lot for work, I was really sad about it but on the plus side he always came back with a lot of goodies.

As usual he traveled, my mother, brother and I eagerly awaited his return and it's not just because of the things he brings back.
I returned from school one afternoon to see a lot of stuff scattered on the floor, that could only mean one thing.
He was back and with him came lots of chocolates.

Even though I grew up in a free house, there were some restrictions.
There were certain things that weren't meant for kids like we were not allowed to watch the adult movies where people walked around without clothes on and did other stuff. In this case, my father showed my brother and I a big pack and told us what the pack contained wasn't meant for children.

Like every normal child, I had to know what was inside of it. He also bought a machine that he would be using to make the contents of the pack.
I saw him use it once or twice, due to my inquisitive nature, I already knew the pack contained something called Coffee.
I didn't care about anything else, all I knew was that I had to taste what was inside and find out why children couldn't take it.

Yes, we kept the machine all this years. My mum's a keeper and I mean that literally.

One morning my Dad made his mystery cup as usual. Something happened, I don't exactly remember what but luckily for me he had to leave the dining table.
I snuck into the parlour, with the stealth skills of a ninja.
There it was staring back at me.
Finally I would find out all the hidden treasures that lay within the cup. I brought it to my mouth, took a sip and spat it out.
It was awful and so bitter.

My coughing attracted my parents and brother. I got the scolding of a life time, my brother stood at the back laughing at my predicament.
I promised myself that I would never go near coffee after that day.
And I kept to it until the previous months.
With graduation coming up and trying to find other legitimate sources to be successful in life, it safe to say I have a lot on my plate.
Keeping productive late nights became a necessity.

I discovered that my Dad took his coffee plain without milk, cream or sugar. I wouldn't make that same mistake.
Addiction is not a good thing I know, but if there's anything I'm addicted to I'm glad it's coffee.
It should be given a Grammy awards for just existing.

I can't start my day without it, not sure it's a good habit but neither can I end my day without it.
It helps me get through the day and it helps me end it well.
I cannot wait for my second dose already 😊😊.

You're very welcome:)

Oh, that’s so universal. Coffee is restricted in many households across the world; it’s not for children. Hehe! But you got your prize and now you’re an addict like the rest of us. Brilliant! ⭐️

If only I had listened back then.
But I have to say it was worth the scolding I got.
It made the moment worth remembering.

Thanks for taking time out to read😊❤️.

I'm sorry you got a scolding. I'm not even surprised your brother laughed all the way. Typical.😂 But without a doubt, if I was to ever get addicted to something, has to be our very own coffee. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story with us. I enjoyed reading.🌺

I console myself with the fact that I laughed at him too plenty times when he got on the wrong side of my parents 😂😂.

But without a doubt, if I was to ever get addicted to something, has to be our very own coffee.

I'm glad you agree with this. At least I'm not the only one.

Thank you for reading ❤️.
