Coffee in the neighborhood (ENG-ESP)

Coffee for me is much more than a simple beverage; it is a tradition, a constant in my daily life, as it is for many Cubans. Caffeine, without a doubt, is a stimulant, an injection of morning energy that lifts my spirits and, on occasion, even helps me regulate my blood pressure. Today I decided to stop by one of the coffee shops in my neighborhood, famous for the friendliness of the owners and also for its good coffee.

The coffee shop, located on the balcony of an apartment, faces a beautiful garden, always impeccably kept. Although it has not been conditioned so that guests can sit down, the atmosphere is relaxing. The simple action of chatting with the lady while waiting for coffee is a brief respite from the routine, because I love talking to people. We chat about our family lives, very briefly, anecdotes about her daughters and grandchildren, a comment about the weather..

Today I tried the regular coffee, La Llave brand, a very popular and good quality brand in Cuba. The coffee was just right: strong and sweet, just the way I like it. The lady, with her characteristic generosity, gave me the coffee I asked for, she told me that this time it was on the house. It's their way of attracting customers, a smart strategy to compete with the other coffee shop right across the street, which, I must admit, has a greater flow of customers.

In this first photo you can see the moment when the lady is serving me coffee, she prepared two, to give to my cousin and me, but my cousin rarely drinks coffee, so she preferred to take my photos.

In these photos I show myself drinking the coffee and the pleasure of enjoying it in a clean and pleasant environment.

The improvised cafeterias in Cuba's neighborhoods are much more than just a place to buy coffee. It is a meeting point between neighbors, friends or simple strangers. People stop, as I did today, to drink a cup of coffee for breakfast, to get an energy boost for the rest of the day, or simply to enjoy a moment of conversation. It is also an opportune moment to find out what's new in the neighborhood, which is a small representation of Cuban daily life mixed with the unique taste of its coffee.

Without a doubt, giving away coffee is a very good strategy by the lady. Neighborhood cafes are also well-known here and what you say is true, these places become meeting points, between neighbors and friends.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.☕

Good day.
