"DAMN IT!"

SMASHING AND CRASHING SOUND

"Day 182 of Coffee Bean Experiment with Dopamine. Unsuccessful."

Setting his recorder down, Steve stepped out to clear his head on the porch of the cabin he built three years ago in the middle of the woods, in the middle of nowhere, and out from the government's surveillance where he can have enough privacy to carry out his experiments. The cabin is made of thick woods that can endure all the seasons we have in a year.

For the past three years, Steve has been focused on his Coffee Bean Experiments. As a scientist in botany, nothing else mattered to him except for his success in his experiments and a woman who has the key to his heart. He could even go days without fueling his body with food or rejuvenating his body with sleep. His sole aim and target was to create a special and unique coffee bean that makes people happy.

Steve didn't work alone, he started the experiment with his trusted colleague, Jane, a fellow botanist who has become someone very dear to him. Jane made it her duty to make sure Steve doesn't cross any lines and to make sure he is healthy for the task. She always goes to a small town nearby to get their supplies and whatever they need in the woods through a specific route that is hidden to anyone in the nearby small town.

Looking at all the fig and apple trees that surrounded his cabin, he felt his skin chill from the freezing weather as it's winter season. Still shivering as the cold helped dull down his aching senses that had been overloaded with stress, he heard a creaking sound from between the trees as a woman, with black silk hair, wearing a red coat and a blue scarf tied around her neck came to full view. Abandoning the porch, he runs to take her into his arms as he held her small frame tightly to his bigger body. Kissing her on the lip he said, "What was the delay? Did something happen? Because I was beginning to get worried."

Chuckling, Jane said, "I had to wait in town for some youth protester to clear away from our route entrance (the secret route to the cabin)"

"Oh, you should have messaged me, don't do that to me again" was Steve's response as he collected all the bags of groceries she was carrying and they both walk to the cabin.

Getting inside the cabin, Jane notices Steve's desk is a mess with broken things on the ground and spilled coffee. Jane raising a brow, "Another failure?" Then she went down on her haunches to begin cleaning up.

"No no. Don't do that. I will take care of it" Steve said as he went to tug her up from her position.

"Steve, you know, one day you are going to get it right. But you need to take a break you can't continue like this or you risk going crazy."

Sighing, Steve pulled her into his arms and said, "You know I am crazy already." With that, he just held her to himself as he rocked them from side to side.

A couple of months later…

"Day 243 of the Coffee Bean Experiment with Dopamine. I did it. Coffee bean is three times bigger than the size of a cacao bean. I may have created the largest coffee bean the world has ever seen.".

After he recorded his success, that was when he was able to hear Jane's excitement beside him. They both celebrated together with wine and without further time wasting, Steve went ahead to replicate his coffee bean. He created some for Jane to carry out to the small town nearby for testing. Jane packed them to go and distributed them to the people while Steve grated some coffee beans for him and Jane to drink.

Not long after, Jane arrived with positive news. "The town's people were very happy to be the first people to taste the first largest coffee bean in the world and they promised they will relay back their experiences by tomorrow when I go back into the town." she said.

"You did it Steve and I am so proud of you. Can we both have a taste of your creation now with some freshly baked raspberry sponge cake?" Jane said as she wiggle her eyebrows.

Mugs clinking together, they drank the coffee and the flavor of coffee hit them so hard that within the next ten minutes they became unnecessarily excited and full of energy that their body couldn't have on a normal day. Running around their cabin in a childish playful chase, they kept destroying some of their household items. Teasing each other and cracking stupid jokes that were humorous to themselves only.

Jane said to Steve, "I am going to start a business to teach short people maths, it is called making little things count".

Steve started laughing as a tear dropped on his cheek. Then he went to say, "One of my nieces usually calls me Ankle. I got mad one day and call her my Knees"

They both began to laugh so hard that their body couldn't take it anymore. All of a sudden they slumped down on the floor into a deep sleep. Laying against each other, their breaths became slower. The same happened to all the people of the town nearby. The town became quiet as a graveyard. All the people went into a deep sleep and were unresponsive. They kept on sleeping but their bodies never aged. Did Steve bring to life a fairytale villain poison?

😃 Dopamine is a chemical that makes us feel good. Maybe Steve put too much into his experiment coffee? I think he should have tasted his experiment coffee first before selling some to the people.

This is nice story and thanks for inviting me. 🤭 I'll try to write something soon.

Hehehe I think so too. Thought I tag you to be aware of the contest. Thank you for commenting. I am glad you enjoyed reading my story. I will be waiting for your entry too. Have a great day ahead.

Nice one dear.

Wow! I wish I could be there to see what happened afterwards. I enjoyed reading this.

Always a #dreemerforlife

Wow! I really enjoyed this, but the end is somehow terrifying 🤣 I know it's sweet not to age but not being awake to witness my forever young nature is something I don't pray for 🤣🤣

That was a very beautiful piece.
#dreemport

Wow, I wasn't expecting it to be this interesting. I love the story and the twist at the end.

The story beautifully captures the intersection of ambition and personal relationships. If coffee could solve world problems, we'd all be living in a utopia by now. Ooo well, for some of us it solves problems... It's practically a public service saving lives and sanity, one sip at a time! 😂😜
