Greetings coffee lovers, I am happy and pleased to write for the first time in this prestigious community dedicated to coffee, in this post I will tell you about my visit to the famous Juan Valdez Coffee Shop, which is located in the city of Barranquilla - Colombia, where I have been living for 2 months.

Before telling you about the experience I lived in this exquisite network of traditional Colombian coffee shops, I want to start by telling you how I arrived in Barranquilla, I am Venezuelan and I hadn't seen my youngest daughter @lorenart who lives in the coastal city of Barranquilla for about 4 years, once we met again and celebrated our reunion with a cup of good Colombian coffee, we proceeded to organize my stay in the city, from there we planned the emblematic places that I should know and visit, in the list of the itinerary of our tour both she and I who are coffee lovers, we agreed that we should visit the Cafetería Juan Valdez, located in one of the largest and most modern shopping centers in Barranquilla, the Mall Plaza Buenavista.
Antes de contarles la experiencia que viví en esta exquisita red de cafeterías tradicionales de Colombia, quiero empezar por decirles como fue que llegué a Barranquilla, soy venezolano y tenia cerca de 4 años que no veía a mi hija menor @lorenart quien reside en la ciudad costera de Barranquilla, una vez que nos reencontramos y celebramos nuestro reencuentro con una taza de buen café colombiano, procedimos a organizar mi estadía en la ciudad, a partir de allí planificamos los lugares emblemáticos que debía conocer y visitar, en la lista del itinerario de nuestro recorrido tanto ella como yo que somos amantes del café, coincidimos en que debíamos visitar la Cafetería Juan Valdez, ubicada en uno de los centros comerciales más grandes y modernos de Barranquilla, el Mall Plaza Buenavista.

La visita a la emblemática cafetería la realizamos el día domingo 28 de noviembre de 2021, alrededor de las 4:30 pm llegamos a nuestro destino, podíamos percibir el exquisito y aterciopelado aroma de un café de otro mundo, este se esparcía como un poema por todos los rincones de la planta baja del centro comercial, el local donde se ubica la cafetería está decorado con los colores emblemáticos de la marca Juan Valdez, Marrón y Rojo , una vez que llegamos a la entrada se puede percibir mucha afluencia de personas que al igual que nosotros también estaban hipnotizados con aquella mágica y envolvente fragancia de un café premium de alta factura.
Once inside the premises began the difficult task of deciding how we wanted our coffee, since the variety is quite extensive, we decided on a premium selection roasted coffee beans, of the Volcán variety, which has an intense and lasting aroma in our opinion, This selection is a combination of Colombian beans from regions such as the coffee region of Nariño whose soils have many nutrients due to the volcano ashes, so you can perceive exquisite notes of caramel and cocoa, it was what we were looking for, since we are also lovers of cocoa in all its forms of preparation, we liked the selected coffee so much that we decided to buy a pound (454 grams - 10 ounces) to take home.
Una vez dentro del local comenzó la difícil tarea de decidir como queríamos nuestro café, ya que la variedad es bastante extensa, nos decidimos por un café tostado en granos de selección premium, de la variedad Volcán, el cual tiene un aroma intenso y perdurable a nuestro parecer, esta selección es una combinación de granos colombianos de regiones como la región cafetera de Nariño cuyos suelos tienen muchos nutrientes debido a las cenizas de volcán, por lo que se dejan percibir notas al olfato exquisitas de caramelo y cacao, era lo que estábamos buscando, ya que también somos amantes del cacao en todas sus formas de preparación, nos gustó tanto el café seleccionado que decidimos comprar una libra (454 gramos - 10 onzas) para llevar a casa.

There began again our dilemma so we asked for advice, and he kindly offered us 3 alternatives from among the 55 varieties of preparation with which they have, we decided on: A Cremo Latte with caramel topping, lactose-free milk, a touch of salt and cream, this coffee was chosen by my daughter, my son-in-law and I were more conservative and we opted for a Cappuccino with cream, after the arduous selection, we unanimously ordered a slice of chocolate cake with coffee, Once we were served the 3 coffees we were not the same as we entered this place that is a little piece of Colombia, in other words we had the joy of drinking a cup of coffee in the country that represents the 3rd largest producer globally, and that sells 40% of its production to the giant of the coffee shops: Starbucks. With respect to the organoleptic characteristics of this coffee we can say that the same corresponded to the advice provided by the barista, deep and strong flavor with notes of nuts, spicy with traces of pepper, caramel and cocoa, a delight for the body and soul, so would end our rich afternoon, ecstatic and fortunate to drink one of the oldest drinks known to mankind.
Una vez seleccionado el café que degustaríamos, el barista procedió a moler los granos y nos hizo después que terminó de procesar el grano, la pregunta que más estábamos aguardando :¿Cómo quieren que les prepare el café? Allí comenzó de nuevo nuestra disyuntiva por lo que le pedimos asesoría, y este amablemente nos ofreció 3 alternativas de entre las 55 variedades de preparación con la cual cuentan, nos decidimos por: Un Cremo Latte con topping de caramelo, leche deslactosada, un toque de sal y crema de leche, este café lo escogió tomar mi hija, mi yerno y yo fuimos más conservadores y nos decantamos por un Cappuccino a la crema, después de la ardua selección, por unanimidad pedimos una porción de torta de chocolate con café, Una vez que nos sirvieron los 3 cafés no fuimos los mismos que entramos a ese local que es un pedacito de Colombia, en otras palabras tuvimos la dicha de beber una taza de café en el país que representa al 3er productor a nivel global, y que vende el 40% de su producción al gigante de las cafeterías: Starbucks. Con respecto a las características organolépticas de este café podemos decir que las mismas se correspondieron con la asesoría prestada por el barista, sabor profundo y fuerte con notas de nueces, especiado con trazas de pimienta, caramelo y cacao, toda una delicia para el cuerpo y el alma, así terminaría nuestra rica tarde, extasiados y afortunados de beber una de las bebidas mas antigua que conozca la humanidad.
