I was pretty pumped about yesterday for a lot of reasons and I knew I had to share it with the community. I’d said a number of times here that I’d only been to cafes outside my state and there wasn’t one, at least no good one that I’d seen in my city.
So I’d been randomly viewing status on WhatsApp when I saw that of a friend who shared her exhilarating experience in a café, with pictures to add. I knew this particular friend also lived in my city so I asked her what café that was and she directed me.
To be honest, I’m very much the indoor type so even though the street where the café was situated was pretty popular, it took me asking several people for directions and almost getting lost to find it. And when I did, I was elated and nervous at the same time. Elated cause I was relieved and nervous because I didn’t know what to do at that point. I quickly took a picture of the sign outside and walked in.
The first thing I noticed was the size. I’m not sure if there was an inner room but the room that I saw was small and also very cozy. I’m not sure if it was the nice lo-fi tunes that were playing in the background or the general outlook, but I felt immediately at ease. I saw a lady and a gentleman who seemed to be on a coffee date from the looks of it. Apart from two other waiters, I saw no one else.
I was kind of sceptical when I saw the bar behind the counter. I desperately wanted the café to be my ideal coffee shop so I didn’t need anything, like the fact that it was also some sort of bar to compromise that. However, I fixed a smile on my face, sat down and asked to see their menu. They pointed at the card in front of me where a QR code was printed on and said that the menu would come out once I scanned it.
I grinned at how unexpectedly bougie it turned out to be and scanned it with my phone. I had a slight difficulty and I didn’t want to get nettled so I asked if they had a hardcopy menu. It was presented, I looked it over and decided on a regular coffee and also inquired if there was provision for me to make it myself. They replied in the affirmative and soon enough, I was presented with my tray of steamed water, coffee granules, milk and sugar.
I paused for a bit and took pictures. I was giddy with excitement but I like to believe that my face didn’t show it as I put a rather generous amount of milk into my cup of coffee granules since I was feeling sweet and added two teaspoons of sugar. I hoped with all my heart that it would have a rich taste. Bad coffee could leave you with such a sad feeling and even PTSD. I’ve had my share of horrible coffee so I wasn't looking for another experience. Slowly, I sipped on my coffee.
Dear readers and coffee lovers alike, the taste of the coffee was rich, exquisite and induced me with such a sublime feeling, to say the least. I sipped on it severally and simply savoured the rich flavour it gifted my taste buds with. It was such a wonderful experience and I knew I’d finally found home. At least for the while I resided in this city.
In response to the prompt, I feel, and not because I ordered just coffee, that I prefer taking my coffee alone. At least for the first cup anyways. That first cup is pretty important and I like to savour it as well as possible. So, as much as I’d love to snack on something while sipping on my coffee, it is not of prior importance to me. At least not as much as the coffee itself.
But I would say that I absolutely adore coffee snacks and now that I know that Kitchies’ Cafe serves excellent coffee, I would be trying out their coffee snacks the next time I visit. So, there you have it guys. Just when I thought that all was lost in terms of café discovery in my city, this café was discovered and actively ticks all the boxes. Maybe it was just a slow day but I’m happy it’s not one that’s overly crowded. The staff were polite and had good customer service, very very important the décor and background were cozy, and of course, the coffee was just right.
Now that I’ve discovered this one, I may just start exploring the city for other wonderful café’s as well. Till next time everyone, have a coffeelicious day.☕

All images are mine.
Huh, I've never actually been to a coffee shop that serves alcohol, now that I think on it... An interesting vibe pairing for sure! I'm so glad you found somewhere to go out for coffee near you, and that it was a satisfying experience! I hope the food is just as good once you try it! 😁🤗
It’s pretty common in Asia, I’m guessing it’s common anywhere with lax laws on serving alcohol. My favorite spots are usually cafes in the daytime and bars at night, always serve food but never get too drunk. Some have dj parties but not so crazy.
I hope so as well. I was honestly sceptical. But it seems a good pairing to a lot of others that I've told. So, onto the food next!🤗😉
Glad you found a spot! One of the reasons I fell in love with Tokyo when I first came in 2008 was the amount of local cafes with a social atmosphere and good music. Every shop had its own vibe. And one of the saddest things is watching so many of these disappear due to the economy slipping and rent going up.
There are still a lot more than in my hometown though. But sometimes I need to take a bus or a train to find a new one.
I like making new friends in an environment that isn’t sloppy drunk or completely sex fueled and insecure. Also just enjoying the atmosphere is nice. Atmosphere can really be an art form and it’s not about fancy nice stuff, just the blending of elements.
Gasped when I saw this. I'm immensely sorry for the late reply.🥺
You need to know how happy I was. The economy is in a meltdown so all my thinking was, "in the eventuality that something like this was there, who would even patronise?"
Atmosphere is something I don't joke with. The perfect ambiance that's devoid of all those extremities that seem to be prevalent now. I'm glad you understand and share that with me.🌺
No problem! Everybody has other stuff going on too! Otherwise I'd read a loooooot more peoples posts a lot more often.
I am working on trying to create better atmosphere. I have a lot of experience with a lot of different kinds of people but I'd like to mix them in a way that doesn't feel forced. Still experimenting.
So how much was this experience cost😂😂😂
Last I checked we're both in this country of trials and temptations.
#dreemerforlife
Omo let me not lie, this experience sha cost o.
But... we'll manage.😂
And Omo that milk was plenty o.
😂😂😂😂😂
I am curious whether they did not have some kind of espresso machine? Or is it normal to make your coffee yourself at your table?
I wouldn't know since it's my first time. But speaking of which, I didn't seem an espresso machine or maybe it was behind the counter, I'm not sure. The counter was really tall. And yours truly is a struggling 5'5.😁
Here in Portugal there's usually espresso machines with quality coffee.
Getting your coffee on your table like you did would be a big surprise but I guess we're living in a different part of the world haha!
Also, I am 6 feet 1, so I would have been able to check for you ;<)
Well, isn't that convenient. I guess I'll have to tag you along every where now. But I'm sure you wouldn't mind that. Your scaliness.😉
I'm happy that you found this cafe @jhymi and I love your own photos. I am pleased to see the street scene.
The café is cosy with a lively decor.
It's an unusual place that serves coffee and alcohol as I can see from the shelves:)
Quite unusual indeed but I'm happy that I'd found a place at least. I was really happy about that street scene so I'm glad someone said it.🤗
🤗👌
See enjoyment na!
I've never seen or heard about a café in my current city, maybe it's hidden somewhere and I'm yet to locate it.
You really had fun.
I hope you visit again and make it a regular joint.
I'm surprised you went alone, normally a guy...🤐😆
Oh please, give me a break Kingsleyy. Lol
I've realized that I love going out on stuff alone. Not like I wouldn't let someone come along if they wanted. Sole dates like this feel really nice to me, is all.
I hope to visit it more too. And it's even pocket friendly. The trip that is. Not the café itself.😆
Oh!
I know you got what I said and not 'your siblings or female friends' following you 🤧
Wow, this is a very beautiful one Jhymi, well I don’t really like coffee, I am more of the tea, yoghurt and soft drink type of guy lol and brooo, what do you mean by indoor lol, you don’t even know everywhere in your state, oh my goodness, I am both the indoor and outdoor type and I know my city to an extent lol about 80 percent lol, well it was all worth it my dear, you had a nice coffee and I am sure you will go back again when you have the chance… beautiful write up my dear…

Thank you, Qudus. And yes, I know that it is perhaps shameful. But I've lived a really indoor life for a long time so I guess I have to bear the consequences at some point.
Thank you for your thoughtful words.🌺
Ahaha you are welcome my dear ❤️
I've had my share of bad coffee, but not from a cafe, I usually get the packaged ones hahaha.
Seems like you had a great time, it's nice they get to allow you to make your coffee.
Yep, it is. I look forward to an even more pleasant experience. Thanks dearest Meya.💜
You're welcome🤗
You sure had loads of fun exploring. The shop looks nice and cozy. Wished I have a place like that around me or maybe I am yet to discover 😃😃😃
Thanks for sharing sis.

That looks like a tranquil place, I don’t drink coffee but I would join you for a tea
Well, good thing I saw tea on their menu.
Looking forward to it.🤗
