Reflections and a Coffee, TCSP #139

English Version

“Enjoy the little things in life, one day you will realize they were the biggest.”

The best way to think about this week's Prompt is undoubtedly with a cup of coffee in my hands, and I take this moment to reflect on the choices that lead us through life, even the one so simple that brought me to the coffee shop I share with you in today’s post.

This coffee shop in Old Havana, located on Mercaderes Street, is called La Columnata Egipciana and pays tribute to the Portuguese writer Eça de Queiroz, whose figure appears represented in a tile mosaic on one of the walls, along with some of his phrases.

Being there was very pleasant, and I did it for the pure enjoyment of the company and the pleasure of freely choosing what I wanted to do at that moment, even if it was something as simple as sitting, talking, and holding a warm cup of coffee in my hands.

It seems like a trivial decision, but as the phrase at the beginning says, the little things often turn into the biggest ones. The most meaningful choices begin with simple choices. And by the way, this post I write while holding my coffee also becomes a recap of the year that is ending, a year of changes that linked together like chain links one after another, forming a sequence that grew and became more robust with each step.

Now that the year is approaching its end, I realize that there are still decisions to make, paths and transformations yet to happen. Perhaps I will discover some of them in my next visit to a coffee shop as charming as this one, with the next cup of coffee that accompanies me in the next moment of pause that I gift myself.

I also have to say that this place is beautiful and very cozy. The name 'Columnata Egipciana', I imagine, comes from the arrangement of its interior columns aligned in rows, and that hold up the roof.

And yes, the mere fact of being here among these columns is already in itself a choice that honors the everyday, and that, like everything we do, becomes actions that give continuity to the experiences of our life. Because the everyday is the place where the decisions that transform us arise. Like this visit, this reflection, this cup of coffee, or this year that also began with a single choice… everything leaves a trace that with time becomes the true path to follow.

Cheers, and until next time!
