Positivity in a cup

That's my cup of coffee right there with succulents on the side. No, I didn't eat the plant although it would be interesting to know how that tastes like.

Kennon Road is one of the major access roads to Baguio City. It's a winding road going up and down the mountainside that's why we often call it zigzag road.

There is a view deck where you can see the winding road and the lion's head, which is another tourist attraction. This is like the final stop where you can rest and enjoy the view before entering or leaving the city.

In brief, the name Kennon Road was derived from this guy.

This is Col. Lyman Kennon. With vast experience in engineering, he led the construction of Kennon Road linking La Union and Benguet. Where others have failed, he succeeded with the help of locals and different nationalities as well.

According to records, between 2,300 to 4,000 workers were employed in the building of the road, all of different nationalities— American, Hawaiian, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, German, Irish, English, Swedish, French, Japanese and, of course, Filipino. Colonel Kennon is thus credited for employing the first overseas contract workers to the Philippines. A breakdown of the figures showed that 49 percent of the workers were Filipinos, 22.5 percent were Japanese, 17.5 percent were Americans and Europeans, 11 percent were Chinese, and the remaining 11 percent were from Latin America and other countries.

Memorial markers can be seen at the view deck honoring those who have died from accidents or diseases during the construction of Kennon Road. Those who survived decided to settle here and intermarried to natives. That's why there are those who have Japanese, Chinese etc family names.

My grandparents live further down from the view deck that's why we traverse this road a lot of times. If my memory serves me right, this is probably the fourth time at least that I have been to the view deck. I can't even remember the last time.

I didn't know there is a terraced garden of sorts where there are pathways that lead to two traditional huts. Also, there are residents below the view deck.

In one of those residences there is a cafe called Positivity and that's where we headed.

There's a stairs beside the toilet of the the view deck that leads down to the cafe. I like the lamps that line up the stairs. I can only imagine how that looks like at dark when they lights are lit.

We also passed by this dead tree where seats and table surround it. There you can see the view of Kennon Road too. I like the privacy of sort this gives.

The cafe is on the rooftop of this house and it is the first one you reach as you go down the stairs. The stairs continue to lead down to more houses below.

I'm liking the view already. The rooftop is divided. The half part was shaded while the other is open. Some tables have tents and umbrellas to give you shade but the rest have none.

This is the view that you can see from the view deck and the cafe.

A closer look of the view deck. The orangey thing almost in the middle of the photo is the lion head. Over the years, that lion had undergone different makeovers. I remembered that to be black then yellow and now orange.

On the other side of the cafe, you can see Bued River down below. That river flows all the way down the rest of Benguet, to La Union before finally exiting Lingayen Gulf in Pangasinan.

Positivity cafe is airy and spacious. I like the wooden furniture and fixtures they have throughout the cafe.

There were also different plants that adorn the place and some served as centerpiece.

Let's get on the real purpose of our visit - coffee and food.

I was only craving for pancakes and coffee at that time. May partner had spaghetti with meatballs. We chose French pressed coffee because that is good enough to share between us.

The coffee is strong the way I like it. It tastes like the Benguet coffee sold in the market. It goes well with the pancakes. The pasta was just okay according to my partner. Nothing special to it. A bit disappointing about the size of the meatballs. However, in terms of it's price, that's just okay.

The cafe offers rice meals and other food and drinks too but what we ordered was enough for that time. That was just enough to satisfy our curiosity about the place.

Should I recommend it? Yes. The view for sure. From what we ordered, it's just okay. We would still give it a chance and try the rest of their menu.

I'm just not so keen about the rest of decors they have. Too much going on without a theme it seems. That's why I didn't take more photos. The plants would have been enough. Simple is more.

Anyway, they have cakes too and that would be something to try next time.

There goes my coffee experience at Positivity for this #BeautifulSunday and #SublimeSunday. #BeautifulSunday is hosted by @ace108 and #SublimeSunday is an initiative of @c0ff33a.

The coffee looks divine, and there's not much I wouldn't do to enjoy a cup of coffee in a beautiful location that's surrounded by scenic nature. I love that they took advantage of it and made a roof bar.
Great photos, and those pancakes are ever so tempting:)

Coffee is more that a blessing.

Most of the time I am disappointed if cafes don't take advantage of the view. We are in the mountains so it's almost a shame not to take advantage of those.
