Roaming For Roasts : Kartika Coffee Charms

in Cinnamon Cup Coffee10 months ago

Hey everyone !

I’ve really been procrastinating about compiling my Wat Arun timeless architecture. It’s something I need to look back into my history lesson notes I got while I was there. It certainly is taking a while to compile into a decent one. So, for now, I am back with my cafe & coffee shop review 😀. I mentioned many times that there aren’t that many places in the middle of the town that I didn’t frequent or have not tried. As newer ones popped up, they were still using the same style as the others which makes it unexciting to visit or have a coffee there.

In the past, as I visited a lot of cafes, I went crazy with sampling all the coffee beans and specialties they offer. Again, once you have too many, everything becomes less thrilling. The coffee innovation lately sort of stuck with the same syrup flavors but the beans that don't really change much. Except in a few places they start selling beans from hip and trendy roasters in Yogyakarta. But the other day when I was going out for midday coffee with my parents, we decided to try this small place nestled in a small road where it’s mostly people's houses. It’s quite hard to differentiate between the two except the obvious sign.

Despite the house being humble, I sensed the coziness that makes you want to stay there for hours drinking coffee and chit-chatting. The place is furnished with cemented furniture and a lot of rustic tables that my mom said, “ had it not been a cafe, it would not have been acceptable”. Then, my dad said, “ it has its own charm”. I don’t know why but for cafes, we call this rustic, vintage, and even brutalist and they come off as acceptable whereas for a place to live in, these things most often aren’t. Although to me, I told them that I could really stay there longer than I would love staying in mom’s house.

Kartika Coffee is a small cafe that is run by a small crew. There’s one barista and a few others in the kitchen.

It seems that they don’t often get old patrons like my mom and dad. Generally, older people don’t often go to cafes like that, they go to something more of a traditional setting and open space but my parents despite being a baby boomer, they often go everywhere with me even to starbucks and cafes that are 99% of its patrons are millennials and gen Z. In that place, it was relatively vacant. There were a few guys and a girl having a coffee alone.

Despite the place being small, it has three seating options. Near the coffee bar, inside the house and outside the house. The outside area though was relatively hot, it was all green. Perhaps it’s what makes the cafe have its own charm, the feeling that you feel and the eyes that see green.

Like most cafe and coffee shop, they offer classic selections but also drip method like v60 and Japanese iced coffee. They also have a few of their signature drinks including kombucha.

These days I rarely drink any milk-based coffee if not because I was craving it or because it’s matchapresso. So, I was opting for their Japanese Iced coffee with Gayo beans that has a fruity and apple sour taste. It’s not my favorite but it was the only option there, so I was okay with it. I perhaps have mentioned that Gayo coffee is pretty popular in coffee shops around. Then, depending on the region, they often have their “own” grown coffee that grows in nearby hills.

The snack options were quite varied but I love the fact that they have this fried mayo and sausage with dough.

Locals call it Risoles and it’s really good. For the rice options they choose to stay with the basics and I wasn’t expecting that they actually come with a rosella tea which was sour but totally refreshing.

Afterall, everything in that place was quite scrumptious with a good portion size of the meal.

I certainly didn’t expect that the place, though small, would actually be cozy and good. I just hope it will stay afloat unlike many other small establishments that went out of business just after a few years of good run.

hello dear friend @macchiata good day
It is good that you have found a new cafeteria for you, although your parents already knew it and it was not much to their liking, for you it turned out to be very cozy and comfortable
I loved the style of the cafeteria, and that each sector had a different decoration.
From what you can read and see in the images, there are very good options despite being a small place.
I appreciate you sharing this experience with us.
have a nice day

haha yeah, it's interesting style and though despite the few selections there, it's not bad actually.

The place is comfy and homey for me.. Simple design but it makes you feel at home. Never tasted this kind of coffee though..

Yes, it's probably why I was feeling comfortable inside the place. Though it was humble, it was pretty comfortable.

I think it's amazing that somewhere like this, which looks like a basic, homely coffee shop offers all this. It's great to find such places because these are the people who need support the most:)

Yeah, there were some good posts, heh-13.jpg

😁 Yep, I just hope that they don't close way too early.

A simple place but it looks quite cozy. Regards @macchiata 🤗

How varied and appetizing those sandwiches look! I got a good laugh out of your mother's expression about the place - why would mothers be like that? It's possible that the attention and flavors help keep diners coming back to this place, with the experience prevailing over that "rustic" or basic look it has. Greetings @macchiata
