Enjoying the gems of Kenya. The winner of the Kenyan coffee box has been announced!

This morning begins fruity. Very fruity! But not only due to the aroma of the Kenyan coffee. The kids are happily enjoying some blueberries when waiting for their breakfast.

They are doing great and the little guy now sleeps until 6:30-7:00 which corresponds pretty well with my own daily schedule. His big brother tends to sleep a bit more, but usually he is awake about half an hour after his brother. We have some pretty big list of things to to today, so I hope to finish this post in time, before we have to leave. 😁

Today’s coffee is #3 of the previous week’s blind tasting. Well, all the coffees are already known and their taste profiles is revealed too. I might have a little mistake with my judging of #1 and #2 coffees but this will eventually be known in one of my following posts in the community. I actually won with competing in this game!

Sadly, I didn’t win 1kg of Kenyan coffee. My win was for purchasing this coffee box of mystery coffees at the price of $30. Now, the same box is selling at the shop, but with the difference that the coffees are labeled. No other difference. And can you guess the price? $50 with about 20% discount! The regular price of all the coffees, bought separately is $65. Now that’s a big win! I felt a bit disappointed that I and my friend didn’t buy 2 boxes and just shared 1.

The #3 beans are very delicious looking. All the coffee from the Kenyan box are medium light roasted. This exact coffee is named Kenya Gitiru. It has very fruity notes of Melon and cranberries and it finishes with a touch of vanilla. Actually now, when tasting this coffee separately, without having the other ones, it smells a lot more intense and fruity than the initial tasting. This means that maybe the #1 and #2 are really intense with their aromas and they tend to make the others less vibrant and a bit tasteless. Now, this is not the case.

This coffee is really flavorful.

Today I ground it to a one step finer setting and think that this is really the limit for V60 grinding. I guess one or two steps coarser gives more pleasurable cup of coffee. A bit more delightful and light. In taste.

The brewing ended in about three minutes and coffees that manage to get ready in about 2:40 match my taste preference of V60 better. I have to mention that since I bought this coffee grinder I cannot be more happy and I had to take this step a lot earlier. It really takes the coffee experience to a whole new level and gives the best possible coffee aromas and taste.

We are preparing for the birthday of our big boy next week so we are currently in process of decorating our living room in sharks and sea topic.

Final thoughts: I really like this coffee. I think that it would be a perfect brew in the espresso machine too. It has flavor complexity and I’m really curious to brew an espresso shot soon! Kenyan coffees have some of the best reputation in the world and there is a reason for that. They have great taste profiles and I haven’t taste a bad coffee from Kenya.

Wish you a tasty weekend and have beautiful time with people you love!
P.S. I finished the post before having to leave! Best wishes 😉

Sort:

Very beautiful photos, the coffee beans and then when it is already ground as fine as possible, it provoked me to try it. Accompany it with a vanilla cake, for me it would be great.
Thank you for sharing it.

You’re very welcome!

I wonder if the coffee tastes different/better because you are drinking it alone - not after drinking other ones that may influence the taste in a comparative sort of way?

I hope your son's birthday goes well. Nice decorations. 👍

Having a stronger tasting food/drink is surely something that will influence your mouth receptors and will make other food taste differently. But this coffee really tastes very tasty consumed alone.

We have still some more ideas of additional characters and wall art about his birthday.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hello @mdosev
It's always nice to win something, and that's a massive price difference indeed.
I'm happy to hear that your little boy is sleeping in later, I think things will only get better.

Why the ocean scene for decoration? Does your little boy love the water?

Said it was 96º in the shoe-4.jpg

He likes the water a lot and gage decided himself that he wanted some sharks and water theme. We ordered a little kids pool that we will inflate on the terrace, so that they will have a real water party.

We are really thankful that we are able to sleep better recently. Otherwise the lack of sleep was gonna finish our last reserves of energy…

Ok, that's cool that he even selected the water creatures himself😁

Oh yes! I've been there!

Hope you are having a nice day:)))
