Maybe because some lattes are served with unbalanced sugar so it actually interferes with the taste of the coffee.
That sounds like a high possibility. I never take sugar in my coffee, but sometimes the barista still gets the coffee-milk ratio wrong.

Indeed, no sugar coffee is the best way to enjoy the unique taste of coffee
