Have you ever see part of clip in old P. Ramlee movie when he ask his son to prepare coffee made by charcoal. He say as long it black it can be coffee. This is the clip of it CLICK HERE TO WATCH IN YOUTUBE and it is real.
Well , the clip might funny , but in real life the was coffee with charcoal specially made at street market in Yogyakarta. I have write about it in TRAVELFEED but since is really rare to find this kind of coffee i still want to share about it in this coffee lover community.
Some where around Yogjakarta , which i also dont know which is part of it because my friend bring me at this road during the night using his motorbike. Well , i might walk this road in the morning but it was very different at the night. As you can see , people sit near d road just using the mat , talk and jokes with each other. (Just as reminder , this was happening before the COVID-19). There was a lot of street entertainer like busker , magician and many more come and entertain the people. Of course they do that for living , and they can give them anything if they have a little bit of extra .
This is my fellow friend. I just meet them during my travel in Yogyakarta and they all very friendly , it was like we been friend for long time.
Inside the cattle there was already got some coffee and they keep heating it using charcoal . This make the coffee taste different event it not being add by charcoal.
"CHARCOAL?"
Yes , charcoal . Like the clip u see Belalang use charcoal to make coffee , the only different is this is coffee being add with charcoal.
They all it , KOPI JOSS . Why KOPI JOSS?
Yes , KOPI means Coffee but what about JOSS? When you put the charcoal with fire inside your coffee it ll make 'JOSSSS' sound , thats why its call KOPI JOSS.
THIS IS COFFEE WITH CHARCOAL OR THEY CALL IT 'KOPI JOSS'
Well , it still taste like coffee but it has stronger taste from the charcoal that can keep you from sleeping .
It taste so different , i think i cant see this kind of coffee sold anywhere other than here. So , can i have another one please.
Well , i might can make it at home but it ll taste different because the environment.
This is one of my unique coffee that i ever found while travelling. Im consider myself an extreme coffee lover , making coffee is another art and skill that have to be learn. Im looking forward to read your story , it not just a coffee but we are bond because of it.
Hello @tommyl33, I saw the charcoal in the coffee and thought you were having a laugh.
I've never seen this anywhere before. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought of putting a briquette of charcoal in my food. I know there are claims of health benefits from eating activated charcoal, but didn't think this way too.
You must be a happy tribe of people; sitting in the streets laughing and joking;)

Hello @millycf1976 . I know right , but i heard somewhere that charcoal is a big help to put out from the food poisoning. But i also believe its not good to consume much charcoal because the dust from charcoal is another type of carbon that not good for health. But, since i was on my travel there i think its ok to experience this kind of coffee. :).

Yes, charcoal has many health benefits and is good for the stomach as a probiotic, but needs to be in the right state I suppose.
