A coffee filter with history and friendship

Hello friends, it's good to see you. December is approaching, a month of nostalgia and excitement for many, when we remember those who are here and those who are not, and also take the opportunity to make some changes in our homes.

Well, about two years ago, or maybe a little more, a good friend of mine had to move to another country due to family problems and start from scratch with her three daughters. She had a business with her dad making coffee filters. She would buy the fabric and sew them on her machine, and her dad would help her with the structure of the filter. The truth is that they turned out very well and were of good quality.

Before deciding to leave, she sold all the furniture in her house to pay for her trip to Brazil. Among her belongings, she found a box with some of her filters, one of which she gave to me and the rest to other friends. I kept that filter with great affection and with the hope that my friend would return soon and replace the old one with a new one, which she told me she would do.

But over time, I've realized that she's better off right where she is now with her daughters. She has a better quality of life, and that makes me very happy. But it was time for a change, so today I went to the supermarket and bought a new coffee strainer. Then I called her to tell her how much I missed her and that I still wanted her to come, but she's doing well where she is.

Before she left, things were very difficult for her. Her ex-partner left her on the street, and she found out unimaginable things. But over time, she settled down. She even had to learn another language, and we talk every so often so as not to lose touch. That old coffee filter was ready to go, and it was time for a new one to arrive. I took care of it for three years, and in the name of my friend, I replaced it today, but with nostalgia.

I remembered all the coffees we shared together, the laughter, the anecdotes, and I'm glad she's doing well where she is. Her daughters are grown up and each one is taking her own path and dedicating herself to what she likes. This coffee filter was something that when I was little I always gave my dad for his birthday: a package of coffee, one of sugar, and a new coffee filter.

It was all I could afford with my small budget, and my dad always looked forward to his gift with affection. Every year is a time for change, for getting rid of what no longer works, for replacing what needs to be replaced, and for changing in many ways, always for the better, and the kitchen is no exception.

This year I changed my coffee maker and also my filter, and I've had good conversations while enjoying a coffee, even when I have to enjoy my own company.
