Sublime Sunday - A Walk Around the Village of Ashford in the Water, Derbyshire

in SublimeSunday3 years ago

I've passed through this little village of Ashford in the Water in Derbyshire, but never stopped to take a look. I paid a visit today starting with the Holy Trinity Parish Church dating from around 1205. The church was later remodelled in the 1800s.

The village has some lovely limestone cottages and beautiful gardens. Talk about cuteness overload.

Even the post box looks quaint. In the 1800s, the post boxes were originally painted green. They were then changed to red thankfully, as they're so easy to spot.

There is a picturesque, medieval, Grade II listed Sheepwash Bridge that was used by farmers to drive sheep into the water, so they could be washed before shearing.

The small enclosure next to the bridge was used to pen the sheep in.

It really is a little gem of a place. I regret now not calling in sooner.

Thank you very much!

That bridge is beautiful.

Cuteness overload is an understatement for this scenery. Wow

I could easily live in this village, but I hate to think how much the cottages are!

I reckon you can afford it.

The feeling of waking up to such beauty and sight is priceless though 😅

Definitely!

Based on the photos, the whole village feels like something from the medieval era, and I like it very much. This post feels like time travel. Thank you. By the way, I also live in a village. Greetings from Hungary.

Have a nice Sunday evening and have a nice week.
All the best.

Thank you. It was definitely like stepping back in time.
