Sublime Sunday in Florida

Ahh, a Sublime Sunday in Florida. A great way to enjoy the Summer Solstice. While many places are just entering summer, we have been in summer mode for at least 2-3 months.
One of our favorite things here is the "Bird cage". This is what we call the screened in patio and pool area in the back of our homes here.

In our birdcage, we've added some extra potted flowers and plants this year. While they make a bit of a mess to clean the patio and pool, it's worth it to have them close and watch them flowering.

One of my favorites is this Hibiscus. The flower is beautiful, but didn't seem to last long.

Then there are these iris flowers, that started late, but really took off as well.

They kept growing and growing, until now there are six of them flowering that pot and another six that are mixed in with a crazy growing plant.

The big monstrosity on the right is a Canna Lily, The pink flowers are more of the iris mixed in. That Canna lily has gone crazy, we are calling it "Audrey" like from the movie little shop of horrors. It's grown so fast we're afraid it may try to eat us!

I just love how these iris have the little flowers below flowers on them.

Here's our Lemon tree surrounded by Persian purple plant. We've got over 24 lemons on this little tree already. I was amazed it could make/hold that many. I thought maybe 5-6 at most. What a pleasant surprise. They are looking like should be ripe in another month.

We really enjoy our little oasis in the back. I was concerned at first leaving our large property in Vermont for this little subdivision house. The birdcage in back is surrounded outside by 10 ft tall hedge, so we have complete privacy in our little space. The neighborhood is mostly older retired folks, so nice and quiet outdoors most of the time, with just the sounds of birds and occasional plane/traffic noise that you soon learn to filter out.

How is your summer going so far?

Hi,

You’ve got a little paradise there. That monstrous flower is absolutely beautiful, and I’d love to have lemons growing in my garden. I haven’t managed it yet—but I’m still on the lookout to see if someone might sell me a grafted plant.

Greetings!

We just picked our Lemon tree up at the local Home and Garden store. Apparently there are special types like this that are smaller and designed for the Flower Pot and back patio deployment versus the full size trees out there. We're very pleased it's doing so well!

That is a beautiful flower! Very nice shots!

Thanks Bozz, looks like we'll have lemons to share!

summer just started since 3 weeks, before was pretty cold and rain, now it's not even too hot

in winter you keep that lemon inside or more protected?

nice flowers tough

This will be our first winter with it later this year, but I don't think will be a problem. Even though we are considered sub-tropical, not tropical, we are still below the normal freeze line. We had one barely frost last year, and don't get snow (at least not in past 10 years). The hope is that it will make it without any special handling.

Give it a special look, it will die if it gets below zero most likely

Tks for the heads up and will keep an eye on it. It never gets to zero F here, may get to zero C or 32F one or two days a year, but that's about it.

That's flowers 🌺 looks beautiful 😍 I like it
