Farming is a profitable adventure in my city. My husband engages in farming because it eases the burden of buying food at home. The produce we obtain from farms has been sustaining us even in the face of harsh economic situations.
In the farm we have several creatures. Some animals are destructive. We term them destructive because they go about eating from our crops. In doing this, they destroy the harvest we would have brought home.
Dominant among the destructive ones are the rodents. The rodents dig out our root crops and eat their tubers. Not only the root crops, they equally eat up seeds of crops like beans, rice, melon, maize and many others.
Usually, the effects of these rodents are curtailed by hunting them. Those men who are good in hunting go around the bush setting traps for them and killing them. Rodent meat are cherished much in our community. They are referred to as bush meat.
In the farm also, there are small insects like ants and termites who are very helpful to the farmer. They are helpful because they help in the breakdown of organic matters and dead organisms into manure which encourages good harvest.
These ants are tiny organisms but their presence is of very important essence to the farmer. That is why I refer to them as the farmer's friend.
