Sword
Commonly known in Venezuela as "Bolivar's Sword" for its long and pointed leaves, and in reference to the Father of the Homeland, this agave is also known as Caribbean Agave and is native to Mexico and Central America, although the name under which it is registered in botanical literature is Agave angustifolia.
These medium-sized plants, depending on the variety to which they belong, can be used to produce alcoholic beverages such as Mezcal and Tequila in Mexico, widely known worldwide, and Cocuy in Venezuela. They also have an ornamental function in patios and gardens because of their singular beauty, and aloe vera can also be extracted from them, a highly valued element in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries because of its multiple uses.
These photographs, from my personal archive, were taken a few years ago at the pedestrian and vehicular entrance of the building where my mother lives. At present, the agaves have been removed from their place and replaced by other crops.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
Conocida comúnmente en Venezuela como "Espada de Bolívar" por sus hojas largas y puntiagudas, y en referencia al Padre de la Patria, este agave también se le conoce como Agave Caribeño y es originario de México y América Central, aunque el nombre con el que se encuentra registrado en la literatura botánica es Agave angustifolia.
Estas plantas de tamaño mediano, dependiendo de la variedad a la que pertenecen, pueden emplearse para elaborar bebidas alcóholicas como es el caso del Mezcal y la Tequila en México, ampliamente conocidas a nivel global, y el Cocuy en Venezuela. También cumplen una función ornamental en patios y jardines por su singular belleza, además de ellas puede extraerse el aloe vera, un elemento muy preciado en las industrias farmaceútica y cosmética por sus múltiples usos.
Estas fotografías pertenecientes a mi archivo personal, las tomé algunos atrás en la entrada peatonal y vehicular del edificio donde vive mi madre. En la actualidad, los agaves fueron retirados de su sitio y sustituidos por otros cultivos.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
