The Flower
A short distance from my apartment is the Flower of Venezuela Cultural Center, also known indistinctly as Flower of Venezuela, or previously, as Flower of Hannover; which has become one of the major attractions of the city of Barquisimeto.
Inspired by the orchid, the national flower of Venezuela, and the tepuis, rock formations located in the south in the Amazon region, this structure originally served as the pavilion that represented the country in the Expo 2000 held in the German city of Hannover, being after the culmination of this event, dismantled, transported and installed again in the place it currently occupies for more than a decade.
It was recently subjected to restoration and maintenance works, which included the replacement of the canvas that covers its 16 petals and the floors of the building, being reopened to the public a couple of weeks ago to host the International Tourism Fair of Venezuela FITVEN 2023.
These photos were taken during a visit to its facilities last September, before its partial closure due to the maintenance works described above.
A corta distancia de mi apartamento se encuentra el Centro Cultural Flor de Venezuela, también conocida indistintamente como Flor de Venezuela, o anteriormente, como Flor de Hannover; el cual se ha convertido en uno de los mayores atractivos de la ciudad de Barquisimeto.
Inspirada en la orquídea, la flor nacional de Venezuela, y los tepuyes, formaciones rocosas ubicadas al sur en la región amazónica; esta estructurada sirvió originalmente como el pabellón que representó al país en la Expo 2000 que se realizó en la ciudad alemana de Hannover, siendo luego de la culminación de este evento, desmontada, transportada e instalada nuevamente en el lugar que ocupa actualmente desde hace más de una década.
Recientemente estuvo sometida a trabajos de restauración y mantenimiento, que incluyó la sustitución de la lona que recubre sus 16 petálos y de los pisos de la edificación, siendo abierta nuevamente al público un par de semanas atrás para albergar la Feria Internacional de Turismo de Venezuela FITVEN 2023.
Estas fotos las tomé durante una visita a sus instalaciones el pasado mes de Septiembre, antes de su cierre parcial con motivo de los trabajos de mantenimiento anteriormente descritos.
