To keep and measure the time, has been the motivation of many advances in mathematics and technology, throughout history. Have you thought how we measure the time: in hours, minutes and seconds? It is a quite complex system, isn’t it? It is based in a numeration system based 60, that date back to the beginnings of the civilization, during the Sumerian Culture. To give detail of it is beyond the scope of this post.
One of the first techniques to measure the time was the sun dial. This post photos shows a very simple sun dial (which is not in very good conditions). There are some sun dials very complex, the mathematics behind them is quite interesting. In spite of the fact that the photo was taken during a cloudy day, we can see the shadow of the dial and see that it is almost 11 am.
El hecho de medir el tiempo, ha llevado a la humanidad a muchos avances matemáticos y tecnológicos. ¿Ustedes se han detenido a pensar sobre cómo medimos el tiempo, en horas, minutos y segundos? Es un sistema realmente complejo que casi no ha cambiado desde los albores de la civilización en la cultura sumeria. Todo elaborado en un sistema de numeración base 60. Detallar estas afirmaciones, esta más allá del alcance de este post.
Uno de los primeras técnicas para medir el tiempo, fue el reloj solar. En las fotos del post de hoy muestro las imágenes de un reloj solar bastante simple, noten que también se encuentra bastante deteriorado. Hay relojes de sol bien sofisticados, la matemática detrás de ellos es bien interesante. A pesar de que las sombras no están bien definidas (por ser un día nuboso) , se constata que son casi las 11 am.
