True. WW1 was also knows as 'the "Final war that will put an end to all other wars". Not a funny thing at all - considering all our after-knowledge about the XX history...

ps. There exist a lot of touching photographs: horses in gas masks, pigeons with photo cameras slung around their necks, dog sleds pulling machine guns… the icing on the cake is elephant (!) with a machine gun mounted on its back. Horrible visuals…
