I have been playing my drums some more over the last week, but I only attempted this Coldplay song today. I was looking at what was available on the Drumless channel and found this one, amongst the hundreds available. I am not a huge Coldplay fan, but I think their first album is good.
This time I did not try to play to the scrolling dots in the video as it did not seem quite right. I had some tab that went with this video from Stephen Taylor that seemed better, so I used that.
As I have only played this through a couple of times I was not going to get it spot on, but I think I did okay. The pattern on the chorus is a bit tricky and my bass drum was missing some beats. It is one I can keep working on. I want to build up a repertoire of a few songs I can play through.
Sorry about the audio quality on some of this. Something was distorting. I had the drums and my phone (playing the backing track) running through a mixer to record this. Someone mentioned they could not see my feet doing anything in a previous video, so I moved everything back so the camera could see more. I have been playing the bass drum without raising my heel, so my legs are prety static.
Rock on!

I am not really a huge Coldplay fan either. My wife really likes them though. It is definitely hard to get all the coordination down. Practice makes perfect though right?!
It is a good tune to learn with as it has a few different patterns in it. I was finding some of them tricky. With stuff like this repetition helps as you train the brain. I'll keep trying.

You should see if they have any AC/DC. I am listening to "You Shook Me all Night Long" right now. It seems like a pretty simple pattern.
Actually the other lesson I looked at was Black in Black, but I need to study it some more. Their drummer seems to play fairly simple patterns generally. I am up for trying different styles, but perhaps not thrash metal :)
Thrash metal is the best though! :) I actually saw a really cool video the other day of a jazz drummer hearing Enter Sandman for the first time and then playing it after hearing it only once through. It was really interesting.
The drumming on some of that stuff is crazy. I think you need the double bass drum pedals to keep up.
I presume you watched this video. It has come up for me, but I hadn't watched it before. An experienced musician can spot the patterns. I've seen other videos where drummers figure out a song. I can't do that yet :)
Yeah, this was the video. It is well worth the watch!
