Good evening everyone. I hope you're all doing well. I have been gone for quite a few days. It's been busy and eventful. And that is something that I want to talk about. You see, in my country, some 3 to 4 days ago there was an earthquake and the very next day of the first occurrence there were three more earthquakes. Now I know that earthquakes are a natural calamity and it is not something we can control and it is not something that we can largely prepare for because apart from having some emergency setup ready for you to run away with or to hide under, there is not much you could do at any given situation. It can be safely said that an earthquake is probably the most devastating calamity because you can prepare the least for it.
Not to mention the shake will bring your life to pieces literally. Now coming back to what I want to talk about, is the situation of the city I live in. It is Dhaka, Bangladesh. And this city is very densely populated. And dense population in itself isn't much of a big deal. Because the density has something to do with what an earthquake can do to you. What is the bigger issue is the city planning. This city is not well planned. This city is full of corruption. People raise buildings in this city using corruption. At least they could have maintained the level of corruption to a respectable point. Why do people have to be so corrupt that they don't even care about the possibility that a natural calamity can simply wipe them off the face of the Earth? Buildings in the city are not properly planned nor permitted nor well constructed. Buildings don't have the foundations for the floors they have above ground, buildings do not maintain the building codes which enable them to be resistant from earthquakes. Buildings. Don't maintain the minimum gap between each building. There is not enough free space for people to move towards in the event of an earthquake so that they can be safe even if buildings around them start collapsing. I mean I myself after the first earthquake got down to the streets and I realized that even if my whole family got down in time we would not have a place to go and if the building were to collapse it would collapse right on us just because there is no open space to safely seek shelter in.
So since then the overall mood among the people of the country is very worrisome. People are scared whether a large earthquake will happen and wipe the city off. Now. I myself pray that it doesn't happen but at the end of the day it's in the hand of the almighty and all we can do is pray for mercy
