Do We Really Need What We Buy?

in Hive Learners3 days ago

Hello friends, see, sometimes in our life we spend on some things which seem very expensive to us but sometimes it becomes a compulsion for us to spend some money. Some people buy many things as a hobby, like every year we all know that a new variant of iPhone comes, so everyone is ready for it, many people who are fond of technology related things, whenever any new technology or gadgets come in the market, they buy them. See, not everyone can afford this because many gadgets or electronic items are very costly, if you look at Apple products, even though they are great, their cost is very high. In some countries, its price is much less than other countries, like now if you buy iPhone from Dubai USA, you will get it much cheaper there than from India. And many people do this too, some people order Apple products for themselves through their relatives so that they can get some discount.

If I talk about myself, I spend very little and buy only those things which are very necessary for me, otherwise most of the people do not spend on such unnecessary things. There are many people who, if they get some money, buy a lot of things or they buy even those things which they do not even need. There are many people around me who do this. They have a hobby of buying expensive things, but many times it happens that they do not even have any need for all these things in their life. But they buy it again because they have to show it to people. See, if you have also read all these things then this race is never going to end, this is a kind of one night race which never ends.

It is okay, many people forget to differentiate between need and necessity and they buy things as per their wish and not as per their need. If you differentiate between these two things then you are saved from many big expenses, but sometimes you will see that buying very expensive things is a much wiser thing for you. That is why I was using a second hand phone for many years, but now as it has become old, updates have stopped coming in it. And all the banking apps that were there in my phone also stopped working due to which I had to buy a new phone. I was searching for a phone for a long time but I was looking for some other smartphone and in the end I bought some other smartphone, friend, earlier I had Poco F1 and now I have Poco F7. To be honest, this investment of mine has been quite good. Till now it has cost me around 31000 INR but to be honest, I found it to be a very good product because the best thing is its camera and its battery, it is quite good, even if I use it for the whole day, its battery lasts completely. Instead, in my old phone, I had to charge my phone somewhere outside and this new phone is much better, its performance seems quite good to me till now.

I have no regrets whatsoever about this investment, and I'm happy about it. I purchased this smartphone, and it was a very quick decision. I didn't think much about it. I liked the phone on a whim, ordered it, and it arrived within a few days. Online services are much faster these days than they used to be. Mobile phones reach you much faster these days, no matter where you are. I hope next year will be a year of lower expenses. I mean, this year, and I hope so. I wish that every smartphone of mine will remain my companion for many years.

Hello @bhattg

You are right in the post - if something makes your daily life easier then it becomes an investment and not a waste. Anyway, I believe that showing off is a bad thing, it only leads to wastage of money.

This is a great mindset: buy what you truly need, not what people expect you to buy. Your example about replacing an old phone because updates/banking apps stopped working is so real.

I don't understand that. Now, every year, the trend of buying clothes for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's seems more essential than eating three meals a day. People always tease me because I wear the same clothes as last year, but I'm not going to go out and buy the latest fashion or the newest product just to impress others. I can't understand how so many people love doing this. Of course, companies aren't going to miss out on this opportunity to capitalize on this newfound need to buy the latest thing on the market, regardless of whether you still have or can still use what you have before.v😅

You are absolutely right that it's important to differentiate between a need and simply a desire to buy something. Your personal experience of buying a new smartphone was also relatable, and it further clarifies that thoughtful decisions are what make spending meaningful. Your old mobile phone was quite old indeed.😎
