Hello everyone, how are you doing on this beautiful day? Thank God it is Friday, yay!!! And it is surely a good day to be alive.

In life, there are a lot of us going through various challenges but because we always have a reason to smile, we are usually able to mask how we truly feel. We look for the good in every situation and use that to bolster ourselves so that we can see it through.

But then, there are those who are unable to move about freely with their challenges, they are not even able to fake a smile because it would be just so painful. These people are everywhere; in our homes, in the hospitals, in the neighborhood. Many of these people can no longer take care of certain things by themselves due to the nature of the challenges they face. And so they require the help of people who will see to them and make life as comfortable for them as possible. It is those people we are celebrating today. It is the National Caregivers Day.

This momentous day is celebrated on the third Friday of every February and it was started in the year 2016. This was done by Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agency, PAHHHA and it has become a norm ever since.

The goal of observing this day was to appreciate and recognize caregivers all over the world.

These caregivers are the unsung heroes, the people who save lives without wearing capes. This is because the good they do are usually behind closed doors and are not usually talked about outside. They take care of terminally ill patients, disabled people, or those who due to one reason or the other are unable to take care of themselves.

The caregivers are the people who bathe, dress, feed, and walk these patients, they also commute from place to place, do laundry, clean, monitor medication, and cook for the patient. Although these activities vary depending on the ailment the patient is afflicted with.

The caregiver goes through a lot, the life of the patient is placed in their hands and they will try their absolute best to make sure the person stays alive. They will have meetings with doctors, conduct research on symptoms and diseases, and they will also manage finances.

And sometimes, a lot of them are underpaid or not even paid at all. Sometimes the caregivers are usually facing challenges of their own but they choose not to talk about it because they feel like the person they are caring for is more important. They will leave their homes and go live somewhere else, just to keep someone alive.

It was because of selfless acts like these that this day was declared. Even if these people are not appreciated enough, the same does not have to be the case for us. We need to appreciate them for all they do. We do not have to employ their service before we know just how important they are to us.

So, on this day, we can just go out there. Is there any caregiver you know? That person is probably going through a lot and would really appreciate any help you have to offer. It might be financial assistance, but most of the time it is usually a little easier than that.

We can help out with our time and our strength. We can help them run errands, cook, do laundry, clean. We can do the heavy lifting. All we are doing is basically making life easier for these people and they will surely appreciate it. And as you do that, you will realize the joy that comes from helping someone selflessly. It is one that can be compared to nothing.
