Hello everyone, how are you doing today? I trust you had a good day and you are really giving it all your best.

Today is the eighth of February and we get to celebrate a day we do not hear of very often despite how important it has come to be in our lives. And this holiday is the Safer Internet day.

I think the basis of the holiday is not rocket science, and even a child could tell you all you need to know about it.

The internet has come to be an integral part of our daily life, it is used in homes, companies and even in places of worship. It can’t be denied that life would be so much tedious and slower if we do not have the internet. And thanks to the evolution of technology, the internet can now be accessed from anywhere in the world, provided your device can access it.

Now, from the comfort of our homes, we can go around the world and get updates. We can catch up with friends and family even without seeing them physically, and for many of us, we can work from home and make some cool cash.

Let us face the facts, working remotely would have been impossible if not for the internet. Now, with a simple computer or a smartphone, you can relax in front of your TV tap away at your device and control the money into your bank account.

But then, as we have all these good sides to it, we also have the bad sides that we have to address.

While some of us go online for legitimate reasons, some go for different nefarious purposes. Especially in this age of social media, we have cyber bullying, internet fraud, shaming people for one irrelevant reason or the other, or spreading false information about someone or something thereby misleading public opinion. These acts have diverse effects on their victims and we have to come together to put a stop to these barbaric activities.

We have to know that just because we have the power to do some things does not mean we have to do those things, by showing a little restraint we show that we are more powerful and not controlled by the acts.

And with the coming generation looking up to us, we have to lay better examples so they can grow in the right way, after all they are the future.

So, on this day, just browse through the internet and continue using it for legitimate reasons. And if you are one of those that use it for clandestine purposes, it is not too late for a change of leaf. No one will shun you.
