I’ve always been of the opinion that art is subjective, and as someone who really enjoys it, I have come to accept that everyone can have their personal opinion on it. The way I see a work of art will be very different from the way someone else sees it. While other people look for meaning and themes in some art, others simply take it for its surface meaning and can’t look past its layers.

So maybe there is no bad art, there are just different tastes in art. Because I’ve come to see that no matter how bad a form of art is, there will always be an audience for it. There will always be a market for it. No matter what. With a good amount of publicity, the right audience will always find it.

And in this opinion, art also refers to books, music, movies, and whatnot. I’ve never been one to hide the fact that I’m an avid movie lover, and such conversations usually lead to people telling me their own stance on movies as well. I’ve seen people who confess that they just can’t commit to a movie. The idea of sitting in place for two hours to see a movie is just impossible. There have been those who don’t enjoy movies with anything that suggests they’re unreal. Such people will never be able to understand why people like me enjoy movies like Superman and Fantastic Four.

But then, our taste in art varies. I’ve come to realize that over the centuries, art has increasingly become less complex and layered, choosing to be more straightforward about its intention. If you look at buildings built hundreds of years ago, you can see that builders of those days took their time and creativity to make them work, their attention to detail was almost superhuman. Also, this can be seen in old stories and poetry. Especially the music of old that told stories that came with lots of morals.

But now, things are very much different. Everything that used to be a praised work of art is now simple and basic. Houses are basic, music is basic, and in your face. A lot of the songs we grew up listening to were actually vulgar in the kind of messages they preached, but we never knew that because we were kids and they flew right over our heads. We had to mature to be able to understand those lyrics. And these are songs that were released within twenty years or so.

But the songs that are released today are so in your face, even a baby in the womb would cringe from the use of profanity in them. In the past, artists were also vulgar, but they hid it carefully and creatively. But now, they simply put it all out. As if there are marks for how dirty a song or anything at all can be. And still, there are audiences for them all.

That’s how it works. Art is subjective, there is no bad art. Just because you don’t like something or you think that a creator can’t do it right doesn’t mean that someone else won’t like their work. We all have different tastes, and many times, different things attract us. So, one thing might put you off, but something else might attract others. If there’s an artwork of a nude woman, some would reject it simply because the woman is without her clothes. There are those who would buy the artwork only because it’s a naked woman. There are those who would buy it because of the deeper meaning of the artwork itself. And there are those who would buy it just to be controversial, and show that they don’t care what people think of them owning such an artwork.

So, is there anything like bad art? No. But there can be bad tastes sha… in my opinion.

Your thoughts about art is subjective and the way you think seems interesting to me and I agree with you. We can't judge art but we can see art from our perspective also.

Yeah... we only see it from our perspective. That's all it is.

Art will forever be subjective. We can't like the same thing at the same time. Also, we interpret artwork (regardless of the type) differently. That's why people hvae favorites artist.

Yeah... that's why we all have favorites. It's all a matter of tastes and tastes differ.
