Is it ever possible to avoid stress? Can we just say that “today, I won’t allow anything at all to stress me.” Is this even possible? Because the way I look at it, we can’t really avoid stress. Even in the most developed countries, stress is a part of life. The most mundane things will stress you. Even with all the features in place that are designed to reduce that stress, there is still a way that stress will manage to trickle through.

Making money can be stressful, and sometimes, spending the money can be stressful as well. Getting a job is stressful, but doing the job is also stressful. Being a student, a parent, and a friend, these things have periods of time where stress is attached to them. And at this point, I’m also of the school of thought that, indeed, it can’t be avoided.

I won’t say that all forms of stress are bad, there can be the good kind that will motivate you to become a better individual with better goals for yourself. Maybe the tiny discomforts of your life or status make you decide that you can do better. The kind of stress your landlord and neighbor give you that pushes you to build your own home. The kind of stress that public transport puts you through forces you to get your own private transport. The kind of stress that the economy places on you, so you choose to only travel first class, no matter the cost. Even a phone can stress you so much that you’ll swear to only use a superior brand for the rest of your life. That can be good.

But other times, there can be periods where these stressors can get too much and become dangerous. If you noticed what I said earlier, stress can motivate you to change your station and get better. It can make you endure the unpleasantness of the stress for a while, because you know it will come to an end soon. With all those, you know that eventually, you’ll be able to get out of the unhealthy situation. That’s only when it’s positive. Because those same stressors become dangerous when you can’t see an end to them. And even worse, the causes of your stress are actually your best options.

Your landlord and neighbors stress you on a daily basis, but you can’t afford to build your own house, and you can’t relocate to another rented apartment because other homes are too expensive for you. Sadly, that house that’s robbing you of your sanity is the best you can afford, and it’s the only thing keeping you from relocating to the streets. But then, how do you cope in such an environment? With a messed-up job that barely pays, you know that you won’t ever be able to make enough money to see you into a better apartment, so you just endure and keep pushing.

And then, other times, it’s the people around us who cause us stress. And it’s not every time that we can do away with them as we would like. While we can easily break up with a partner who stresses us, can we do it when it’s a child of ours? Or a sibling? Or a business partner? Hell, even the richest people in the world have one thing or the other stressing them.

Seeking a life without stress means seeking a life without any form of growth. Because nothing comes easy. The stress you feel could be the motivation you need to get to the next stage of your life. That’s how winners are made. All in all, when stress comes for you, avoiding it won’t really work. It will always be better to just deal with it. Face it head-on, and refuse to let it get to you. Back when I was in school, I always complained here about how the system was stressing the hell out of me and basically draining me. But I saw it through to the end, I was determined that I wasn’t going to be there for longer than I had to be. And that was exactly how it played out.

Deal with the stress, reduce it to the very best of your ability, and just handle it. Because eventually, something else will come, and you’ll need to be prepared for that as well. So yeah, that’s my two cents.
