I think one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the rating systems of movies and TV shows. As in, what exactly is considered before a movie can be classified as PG-13 or PG-16? What are the things that can be included in the film and the ones that can’t be included? Because many times, with the way a lot of movies are structured these days, you have to wonder, is it really for kids?
When a movie is rated PG-18, it means that only adults can watch it, and most likely, there will be adult content displayed in the film. But then, when you see that disclaimer, what comes to mind? Most of the time, the first thing we think about when we hear adult content is usually nudity and sex scenes. But that can’t be all it is, can it? There is so much more to adult content than just nudity and sex scenes.
Many times, the theme or message of the film itself can be targeted at adults, even though there won’t be a single naked person in the film. The kind of issues that the film chooses to tackle will also be a key factor. Because it doesn’t really make sense when you rate a movie PG-18 because of the sex scenes, but then go on to rate PG-13 a film filled with lots of blood and gore, violence, and serious killing. In my opinion, both should be restricted to adults.
There are many people who follow the rating system like a bible, they live their lives strictly by it, and they use it to decide what exactly their kids will consume. Once the rating is PG-13, anyone under that age will not be allowed to watch it. And that’s it. Thus, they can willingly allow their kids to watch it even though they have no idea what exactly the kids will watch.
But then, I don’t think that’s enough. Just because something says PG-13 doesn’t mean it’s safe for your 13/14 year old child to consume. You also have to watch it first and determine that it’s something that you want your kid to watch. And with the world being what it is, and the media being used as a tool for propaganda, it’s easy for such movies to influence the kids. And because you think it’s safe, you’d have no clue at all.
So, I’m not saying that the rating system is not good, I’m just saying that there’s a lot more to these movies than just nudity and violence. Those are not the only things that should be isolated to adults; there are some messages that should be left for adults only because they’re the only ones who are mature enough to deal with such things.
These days, even the local TV stations that are under strict supervision still show content that is not really safe for kids. They play music and show videos that are just teaching our young ones bad things. Yet, when you look up the rating, they’re ‘family friendly’. Honestly, this goes to anything at all your kids will want to consume, especially the ones that are for toddlers… watch them yourself and know for sure that you’re comfortable with them consuming that particular content.
Because these things can come in so many features, they can come in family-friendly packages; we just have to be careful. Because propaganda is everywhere, and if you’re not careful, your kid will be turned right in your own home, under your watchful eye. I hope it doesn’t ever get to that.

For adults it's not an issue as they can understand but for kids they are not mature enough to understand all the things and it can bring negative thoughts in their mind which can impact their mental growth and I also think it's necessary to upgrade the rating system.
Yeah... it needs an upgrade. It's definitely due for that.
