Hello everyone, I greet you all π€ welcome to another Breathtaking Topic which says, A TRADITIONAL WEDDING CEREMONY.
I pondered a while trying to figure out how to go about this topic and I was able to recall the last traditional wedding I attended and the processes that was taken. Before I proceed let me point out some vital steps that must be taken.
HOW TRADITIONAL WEDDING CEREMONY IS CONDUCTED IN IGBOLAND
FIRST STEP: Thereβs what they call knocking on the door πͺ (Iku aka na uzo) you must go to the brides family with either one or two of your friends and some of your family members to seek for their daughterβs hand in marriage and if you are welcomed by the parents of the bride, then the marriage process begins.
SECOND STEP: Thereβs what they call background Investigation. You need to find out the type of family you are marrying from if they have a good record in the community or not and of course you want a bride from a good and solid background, by the time you must have satisfied your curiosity about the family you can now decide whether to go on with the marriage or not.
THIRD STEP: Bridal List, by the time the two families must have come in conclusion with their investigation and agree with their findings they can now proceed with the marriage rights/requirements, brides parents and the kindred (Umu Nna) will bring their list and the groom must present to them all before the marriage day.
The Bridal List Includes::
1)Tubers of Yam
2)Huge bags of rice
3)Both alcohol and soft drinks
4)Kola nuts
5)Cash gifting
6)Large stock fish
7)Bags of onion
8)Bag of salt
9)Cow or goat π
10)A gallon of palm oil G/oil
11)At least 3 George wrappers
12)At least 3 pairs of shoes π
13)wristwatch
14)Jewelry for the mother
15)Handbags
16)Luggage bags πΌ
17)Big Talcum powder
It Depends though, not in every state in Igbo land they demand all these items, where I come from in Igbo land is almost free and we treat our women good π―π€©
FORTH STEP:: DOWRY(EGO ISI NWANYI)
This is the amount of money π΄ that will be given to the groom to pay as long as the both families have reached the agreement for the groom to pay the specific amount of money π΄.
Thanks to civilization, most of this aspect of marriage rights and requirements have faded away
in some villages and communities, some places in the Igbo land it seems the parents are selling their child for moneyππ
As a groom π€΅ who does not have much would you continue with this marriage or not? π as for me if I have money I will even pay twice of the requirements because of the love I have for my Bride π°
As for me, nothing is too much for the woman you love β€οΈ I would do anything to marry her since I love her π
