TRADITIONAL BELIEFS ❌

in Hive Learners2 years ago

Hello beautiful people of our own time, I greet you all 🙌🙌

I am glad to take part in the last edition of week two(w2e3) which the title is TRADITIONAL BELIEFS.
And I will be telling us some of the ancient BELIEFS and TABOOS in Igbo land where I come from, though most of this beliefs and taboos are no longer practiced much due to civilization and Christianity ✝️ Igbo comprises of just one language even though Ebonyi State has it special Igbo language the people speak 😂 but when they speak you will still understand some if you listen carefully. Why am i on this topic? To educate us more about the ancient beliefs in Igboland. The language Igbo comprises of 5 states
ABIA STATE
ANAMBRA STATE
IMO STATE
ENUGU STATE &
EBONYI STATE

                 (PYTHON)🐍

In the ancient time, the Igbos regard Python 🐍 (EKE) as their ancestors and also their father, you dare not kill python or eate it because python represents their ancestors if you kill it both the killer and the whole community will experience calamity and It could be lugubrious..Some of these beliefs was as a result of fear of the unknown so they try to seek for protection and for their families. According to them back then, they said the python does not hurt anyone but protect them. Presently in Igbo land some states or one state still practice it but not much. Beliefs like this should be abolished because as the world 🌍 advances daily there should be a new system and people should try to adapt the new system, to me, they are not doing any good to our generation, we must not follow the footsteps of our fathers and forefathers in the aspect of spirituality. Well I’m glad we the Igbos are not compelled by anyone to serve those spirits, you have right to religion and right to decision too, why these beliefs are gradually erasing is because Igbo has only one religion which Christianity ✝️ so we have to understand that we can only get protection from God and not those spirit and ancestors like they believed☝️

            (PLANTAIN)

In Igbo land, in the ancient times they believed that a plantain with two fingers together are not supposed to be separated looking at it or facing it, the person that will separate it will have to do it with his hands behind him and then separate it, they said it is bad omen to have twin plantain together, they believe that if anyone separate the twin plantain looking at it or facing it the person will give birth to conjoined twins 👯‍♀️Beliefs like these are never true but in some cases some women give birth to conjoined twins that does not mean they separated plantain 😂 this is not the kind of belief we should practice 🤩not for our generation, glad it wasn’t practiced during our time we only saw some evidence that they did.

             (RIVER/FISH)

When I was growing up there is this river they call (iyi ukwuango ) Iyi simply mean river. We used to go see live fish 🐟 anytime we are going we go with either soap or bread 🥖 just break the bread and throw it inside the river you will see all kinds of fishes 🐟 🐠 but this fish is forbidden, they don’t kill or eat the fish because their god lives there so when I follow the history of that river I found out that during the Biafran war the river and the whole community was invaded and they killed the fishes 🐟 and ate them so the god in the river left and since after that day the river flows upwards not downwards anymore. According to them if you are traveling out of the community or anywhere in the world you will have to go the river and drink the water and pray there and why they drink the water for protection, if they drink they water nothing bad will happen to them wherever they go that’s what they believed on but right now I don’t think if there’s anyone still practicing that. These are not the kind beliefs that we need in our generation they should be abolished forever if at all they still practice them.

I do hope you enjoy reading and learning from my article that such beliefs are not what we should practice and if they had not been abolished I think some of us today would have joined in practicing them but thank God for civilizations...

Thanks for your time 🤝 see you in my post 🙌
