Hello Hive Learners!
Here's my entry for this blogpost.

I'm sure many of us attributed intelligence to being book-smart and educated. I used to too, but that changed. I recall the times my father will tell a story and say, "..the man is/was very intelligent". In my mind I'll say, " how can he be intelligent when he did not go to school". As time progressed, i learnt what he meant by the statement.
Keep reading while i share the little I have come to understand.

Intelligence is simply our ability to think, solve problems and adapt to situations.
From the little definition above, we can see that every human possesses a certain level of intelligence-whether educated or illiterate- as it comes naturally to us.

When you go to school, tests are administered to gauge and determine how well you remember what you have been taught. Your ability to understand and memorize the teachings gets you good marks, not your intelligence.
Grades are merely a measure of your focus, effort and memory work.

A little child need not go to school to know that if he behaves badly, his mother will discipline him. During the times of old, our forefathers never attained formal education but were considered intelligent because of their ability to navigate life and their problem solving skills. They were illiterate yet extremely sharp. So, school is not necessary for an intelligent person to thrive. It only helps you boost and broaden your knowledge.
Being educated doesn't mean intelligence. They're two different things. Gaining knowledge helps you leverage on your intelligence.

Intelligence is hereditary, just as any sustainable value is sexually transmitted and manifests in a child through Gene.
Scientifically, 'the intelligence trait' is found in the X chromosome. While the man's is XY, that of the woman is XX. Your intelligence is a measure of your genetic makeup.

Academic intelligence isn't the only intelligence there is. So, intelligence isn't limited to being book smart.
My ability to solve a problem, to adapt to situations and learn from them determines my intelligence.
One doesn't need to visit the four walls of an institute to be termed intelligent. Understand that nature in her abundance blesses us all with intelligence and if not nurtured, it may diminish.

Often times, we misconstrue good grades and intelligence as being equal which is untrue. There's no guarantee that if you have one, you must possess the other because grades are a measure of ones academic performance whilst intelligence is a measure of ones performance in life generally.

Finally, I think what we call intelligence (in terms of good grades/education) should be Brilliance.
Good grades via education can be earned whilst intelligence is inborn.

Spot on! It's actually brilliance and that's why some of those "intelligent" people only know the things in their books and how to answer exam questions, but when it comes to applying those concepts in the real world (which is the actual test of intelligence), they can't do it

I used to mix up both words before but they're very far apart. I'll rather call the 'intelligent' people smart. Infact, intelligence is a broad yet specific term.

Yeah
Perfectly said dear
Putting what we've been taught or learnt into practice and come up with an idea or reason skill is known intelligence
We most not acquire it from school only .. it by developing the talent in us

We do not need school to be intelligent one bit. It's in us already. Like you said, all we really need is to develop the talent in us.

Yeah .. sure
As humans, God created everyone with his/her talent and it's also call intelligence
Practice makes perfect as always said

You have said very correctly which I totally agree to it. Being intelligent is different from being brilliant. You can even memorize book during test or exam, but your intelligence only comes in when you are able to apply what you have memorized in the outside world.

Brilliance is to book as intelligence is to life in general.
Thank you for your input.

This was such a great read. Yes intelligence is natural and shouldn't be confused with academic excellence.

I also used to have that mindset until I discovered the truth. There are a lot of people who didn't get the chance to go through the four walls of an institution but they ended up being successful and intelligent.

Yes, going to school and getting good grades is awesome but it's just a way of testing our understanding of what we've memorized, not our overall intelligence.

Thanks for sharing this!

Both intelligence and good grades are very important as having both ups your game.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading this. And thank you for engaging.

Hmmmm you even impressed me the more with the genetic formation you stated there, I learnt that last year before my jamb, you have indeed said almost everything and I believe all...

Thank you for this beautiful post 💲
