Each culture has it's own beliefs and practices that has been handed down from one generation to another. Most of these practices are diabolical and some are no longer practiced since the incoming of civilization but then they're still a lot of them that are still being practiced.

I had a lot of fun engaging with other authors and learning a thing or two from different cultures across different countries and states and I must say, they're a lot of things being practiced in this world. I read about a Community that worship crocodiles and it's a taboo to kill or eat the creature, another talked about eating at the graves of their loved ones, men it's some scary shit.

But then it's good to know that we're all different in our various ways and our beliefs gives us a unique identity one that we'd always relate with no matter where we find ourselves. For some of us who were born in a different place and culture it'll be really hard to acknowledge what our true beliefs. But then we're not entirely foreign, hehe.

There's this belief of the Ibibio that I'm still struggling to accept. This belief has been there for a long time and is still being practiced even in other states and cultures. It is believe that the female child shouldn't benefit of the inheritance of her father no matter what. When a man dies his properties are only among his male children and his female children are left with nothing.

Well, it is said that the male children are the ones who'll carry on the name of the father and since properties like lands are considered spiritual, it'll be wrong for it to fall into the hands of an outsider. They believe that the female child would get married to someone outside the family and then she'll bare the name of that family, so whatever belongs to her husband would also be hers.

This is something that is being practiced a lot in Nigeria and a lot of other countries. The female folks are believe to be the weaker vessels so they need to submit to the men. There's no doubt that the men are the head and should be treated as such but it doesnt present a basis for the women to be discriminated against and wrong treated.

I believe that we're equals and should accord each other with respect. The woman should have a chance to benefit from their fathers inheritance, even if it's the slightest of things, let them have a tangible share. I know that a lot of people wouldn't agree with this but that's my own opinion. The women work as hard as the men work and it'll only be right for them to be shown love and be treated with care.

So I think this sort of belief should abolished and a lot of our people need to be properly enlightened. The belief that the male child is a gift and the female isn't or that it'll be a taboo for the female child to inherit her father's land should be stopped.

This belief should really be stopped and this belief is still prevalent in my country. I think girls should have equal rights. We all need to be aware of this

Yeahh you're right, all this discrimination wouldn't help at all. It has to be stopped as fast as possible to help the next generation grow.

Thanks for your comment ❤️❤️

Yeah, traditions like this still exist but are carried out on a low-key. Surely needs to be abolished.
