It is becoming extremely difficult for on to scroll through Tiktok without coming in contact to a video of someone helping a less privileged person. This particular pattern has even grown into a social media niche where influencers offer their assistance to whom ever they come across through a random selection process, pranking or even a contest . There are a few people who indulge in it for the sake of helping those in need just like the likes of Asherkine from Nigeria, Mr beasts (even though they also enjoy the benefits) while a lot of them focus on the attention it brings their way and the reputation that comes with being a good person.
With the consistent difficulties faced in Nigeria genuinely helping someone is no easy feat in fact helping someone in general regardless of the intentions is something worth praising as a vast number of the Nigerian population is struggling to feed, how do you expect someone who can barely eat there square meals to donate so those who do need to be appreciated and given credit for their selflessness. As great as donating is, a lot of setback are usually attached to it. One of it being the assurance that the items being donated get to the real beneficiaries and how this can be traced.
Being a member of a very large home, there was still something I noticed about my mother, it was the fact that she never threw or burn clothes yet there was always a shortage of old fabrics at home. After a series of close investigations and a little questioning here and there, I soon discovered that she was donating them to an orphanage close by and the children of our neighbors. One day I decided to ask her why she was giving them out and she told me story of how she came from a very very poor background, how all the clothes she owned were hand me downs from relatives and neighbors because her parents could not afford so she's trying to do for others what was done to her. That day alone opened my eyes to a whole new world of giving out. This life is too short to horde it all so if you have please give to someone who doesn't.
I don't know if giving beggers is a part of donating but if it does then I guess I have been doing something about my mother's ideology because it is something I do even though it is not as often as I hoped. There's this lady that stays close to my place that knows an orphanage so I also help with some of my old clothes. Now I don't really know if my donations get tiny intended target and be honest I have never really given it much thought as I feel like I can trust the folks in the middle. However if they are not keeping to their own end of the arrangement, I don't even think there's much I can do about it because I cannot monitor what they do with my contributions to humanity. I just do what little I can and help they do the right thing.........

My area has been flooded recently, and I've spoken with one of the victims while buying some cooking supplies. She said that influencers flooded their area (which was near the river), but the good thing is... they provided them with something. Some may have ulterior motives for doing so, but as long as they're able to lessen the burden of the victims, then it's ok. :)
Helping is not really good most especially when you are still struggling to survive but is good to help at any level once you see you are in the state of helping.
