In a small town, with few inhabitants, and studying in a public school, nothing very glamorous in the routines could happen. That was until the release of one of the biggest hits in world cinema, which was Titanic.
The extravagant production was the subject of detailed analysis of one of the biggest programs on Brazilian open television, Fantástico (Rede Globo), a program that reigned supreme in the audience of the Brazilian population.
The smallest details of the film's production were explored. The recreated objects based on the underwater expeditions that explored the ship's interior. The grand clock, iconic in the film.
The way in which the special effects and the reconstruction of part of the ship were created to simulate the moments of anguish experienced by the protagonist couple.
The work was engraved in the population's memory, and at the same time that there was a lot of euphoria with the release of the film, we knew that it would not be seen anytime soon, since the hope of watching it would be by showing it on an open television network, which that would take years to happen.
During the construction of this post, I tried to locate, out of curiosity, the report about the film, and I ended up finding the vignette announcing the first screening on Brazilian open TV, which would take place on Rede Globo's special end-of-year programming, in 2000. The announcement
As if a genie granted a wish, a partnership between the state education network and some type of federal government program or agreement meant that all public school students were taken to the nearest cinema to enjoy the film.
In our case, we had to travel about 30km to the neighboring city. And this was done using public buses.
The trip
In all the years I was in the public school system, I had never left school to go on any trip, research, or field exploration. It was an unprecedented event.
The students' euphoria was noticed by everyone and school officials feared that excessive joy would become a problem in keeping students safe, both on the trip and during the film screening.
To occupy the minds of young people, some teachers who accompanied the trip decided to use the classic device for school tourism bus trips: musical instruments!
Guitars and tambourines were taken. The more advanced students took turns showing their musical talents. The teachers arranged to never go too long without a "distraction". I realize this today, when I remember the facts. At the time, it all seemed very natural.
As there were students of different ages, it was easy to see that some friendships were being created that day, and interaction between classes increased a lot. It took about 2 hours to travel, including the return time. A time of forced coexistence but which served to get to know our colleagues from other rooms better, and this interaction even served as inspiration for some of them to start studying guitar!
Of course, there are no photos or any other type of record, as the popularization of cell phones with cameras would only happen ten years later.
So, everything was remembered as a good memory of a fantastic trip!

Em uma pequena cidade, de poucos habitantes, e estudando em escola pública, nada de muito glamoroso nas rotinas poderia acontecer. Isso até o lançamento de um dos maiores sucessos do cinema mundial, que foi Titanic.
A produção extravagante foi objeto de análise minuciosa de um dos maiores programas da televisão aberta brasileira, o Fantástico (Rede Globo), programa que reinava absoluto na audiência da população do Brasil.
Foram explorados os mínimos detalhes da produção do filme. Os objetos recriados baseados nas expedições submarinas que exploravam o interior do navio. O grandioso relógio, icônico no filme.
A forma como foram realizados os efeitos especiais e a reconstrução de uma parte do navio para simular os momentos de angústia vividos pelo casal de protagonistas.
A obra ficou gravada na memória da população, e ao mesmo tempo que havia muita euforia com o lançamento do filme, sabiamos que o mesmo não seria visto tão cedo, uma vez que a esperança de assistir seria pela exibição em rede aberta de televisão, o que levaria anos para acontecer.
Durante a construção desta postagem, tentei localizar, por curiosidade, a reportagem sobre o filme, e acabei encontrando a vinheta de anúncio da primeira exibição na tv aberta brasileira, que viria a acontecer na programação especial de fim de ano da Rede Globo, em 2000. Como que um gênio concedendo um desejo, uma parceria entre a rede estadual de educação e algum tipo de programa ou convênio do governo federal propiciou que todos os estudantes da rede pública fosse levados até o cinema mais próximo para apreciar o filme.
Em nosso caso, era preciso se deslocar por cerca de 30km até a cidade vizinha. E isso foi feito utilizando os ônibus coletivos.
A viagem
Em todos os anos que estive na rede pública, nunca havia saído da escola para realizar qualquer passeio, pesquisa, ou exploração em campo. Tratava-se de um evento inédito.
A euforia dos estudantes era notada por todos e os funcionários da escola temiam que o excesso de alegria se tornasse um problema para manter os alunos em segurança, tanto na viagem como durante a exibição do filme.
Para ocupar a mente dos jovens, alguns professores que acompanhavam a viagem resolveram utilizar do artifício clássico para viagens de ônibus em turismo escolar: instrumentos musicais!
Foram levados violões e pandeiros. Os alunos mais avançados se revezavam mostrando seus talentos musicais. Os professores articulavam para que nunca ficasse muito tempo sem uma "distração". Isso eu percebo hoje, ao relembrar os fatos. Na época, parecia tudo muito natural.
Como haviam alunos de várias idades, foi fácil perceber que algumas amizades foram sendo criadas naquele dia, e a interação entre as turmas aumentou muito. Foram cerca de 2 horas em viagem, contando o tempo de retorno. Um tempo de convivência forçada mas que serviu para conhecermos melhor os colegas das outras salas, e nessa interação até mesmo serviu de inspiração para alguns deles começarem a estudar violão!
É claro que não existem fotos nem qualquer outro tipo de registro, pois a popularização de celulares com câmeras só aconteceria dez anos depois.
Então, tudo ficou na memória como uma boa lembrança de uma viagem fantástica!
