Art has never been my strong suit. As a child, I barely had the coordination to paint the drawings that teachers gave us as assignments. Imagining that I could draw a work of art seemed impossible. But over time, I realized that art is not just about paintings and pictures hanging in galleries. Art is any form of expression capable of translating feelings, thoughts, and internal perceptions to the outside world.
A clown who dresses up and entertains children is making art. A musician who dedicates himself to his instrument makes art. An actor who performs in a play also creates art. But after all, what defines whether art is good or bad?
Each person has their own perception of what art is. For example, some consider graffiti a legitimate form of expression; others see it as vandalism and prefer street art, which enhances urban landscapes. For a small group, graffiti is art—but, interestingly, these same people would hardly accept graffiti on the wall of their own home.
The truth is that art is subjective; it depends on each person's opinion. It's like taste in clothes: some people love a certain style, while others find it outdated. Everyone has their own concept of what is beautiful or meaningful.
Who would have thought that a painting with seemingly random splashes of paint could be considered contemporary art and be worth millions? The art world sometimes seems so distant and elitist that many auctions end up being used for money laundering. Those who say they don't understand this type of art are quickly labeled as ignorant or “uncultured,” while those who attribute million-dollar value to certain works rarely manage to justify this value beyond the social prestige and restricted market that surrounds them.
At the university where I am doing my master's degree, it is common to see different artistic expressions in the corridors: people making bracelets, painting their bodies, playing instruments, or expressing themselves through dance. However, what I find most sad is that many of these artists will probably never be able to make a living from their art.
Many believe that their art is extraordinary—and sometimes it really is—but they lack the strategy to turn talent into livelihood. Without marketing, without publicity, and without entrepreneurial vision, even good works go unnoticed. On the other hand, there are also those who produce a type of art that communicates nothing to most people. In this case, insisting on living solely from it can be a path to frustration.
The curious thing is that bad art by an unknown artist is easily rejected. But when a famous artist does something equally questionable, the work is praised and sold for absurd prices. Even in the art world, name and status are worth more than talent. As in so many other areas, the richest continue to be the most valued.
In short, art is one of the most authentic forms of human expression, but at the same time, it has become a territory of contradictions. After all, art is less about technique and more about impact.

Arte nunca foi o meu forte. Quando criança, eu mal tinha coordenação para pintar os desenhos que os professores passavam como atividade. Imaginar que eu poderia desenhar uma obra de arte parecia impossível. Mas, com o tempo, percebi que arte não se resume apenas a quadros e pinturas pendurados em galerias. Arte é toda forma de expressão capaz de traduzir sentimentos, pensamentos e percepções internas para o mundo exterior.
Um palhaço que se fantasia e diverte crianças está fazendo arte. Um músico que se dedica ao seu instrumento faz arte. Um ator que encena uma peça teatral também cria arte. Mas afinal, o que define se uma arte é boa ou ruim?
Cada pessoa tem sua própria percepção do que é arte. Por exemplo, há quem considere pichação uma forma de expressão legítima; outros a enxergam como vandalismo e preferem o grafite, que valoriza paisagens urbanas. Para um pequeno grupo, pichação é arte — mas, curiosamente, essas mesmas pessoas dificilmente aceitariam ver uma pichação na parede da sua própria casa.
A verdade é que a arte é algo subjetivo, depende da opinião de cada um. É como o gosto por roupas: algumas pessoas adoram determinado estilo, enquanto outras o acham antiquado. Cada um tem seu próprio conceito do que é belo ou significativo.
Quem diria que um quadro com tintas aparentemente jogadas de forma aleatória poderia ser considerado arte contemporânea e valer milhões? O mundo das artes às vezes parece tão distante e elitizado que muitos leilões acabam servindo até para lavagem de dinheiro. Quem diz não entender esse tipo de arte é logo rotulado de ignorante ou “sem cultura”, enquanto os que atribuem valor milionário a certas obras raramente conseguem justificar esse valor além do prestígio social e do mercado restrito que as envolve.
Na universidade onde faço mestrado, é comum ver diferentes manifestações artísticas pelos corredores: gente fazendo pulseiras, pintando o corpo, tocando instrumentos ou se expressando através da dança. Contudo, o que acho mais triste é que muitos desses artistas provavelmente nunca conseguirão viver financeiramente de sua arte.
Muitos acreditam que sua arte é extraordinária — e às vezes realmente é —, mas falta estratégia para transformar talento em sustento. Sem marketing, sem divulgação e sem visão empreendedora, até boas obras passam despercebidas. Por outro lado, há também quem produza um tipo de arte que não comunica nada à maioria das pessoas. Nesse caso, insistir em viver apenas disso pode ser um caminho para a frustração.
O curioso é que uma arte ruim feita por um artista desconhecido é facilmente rejeitada. Mas, quando um artista famoso faz algo igualmente questionável, a obra é exaltada e vendida por valores absurdos. Até no mundo artístico, o nome e o status valem mais que o talento. Assim como em tantas outras áreas, os mais ricos continuam sendo os mais valorizados.
Em resumo, a arte é uma das formas mais autênticas de expressão humana, mas tornou-se, ao mesmo tempo, um território de contradições. Afinal, no fim das contas, arte é menos sobre técnica e mais sobre impacto.

Truly, the work of art is subjective, it's based on individual opinion. I love art a lot when I was a kid but my paintings were horrible and they made me lose interest. If I had discovered that art isn't about the perfection but it's a way of expression,I would have just continued painting...

Exactly, art is subjective to individual perspective of what art should be or shouldn't be. We define art based on each individual unique taste and our ability to understand a specific work of art tends to determine how we criticize it.
