Of the truth, in their day school paid off, those who managed to be educated were highly recognized and given good jobs.
But fast forward to our time, things changed, it is as if people realize that education pays, so everyone decided to go to school not just to get knowledge but to get a nice job at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, year by year, the number kept increasing, graduates kept multiplying until opportunities became scarce.
One mistake most people make is they refused to learn a skill while studying and aside that the agriculture that was one of the nation's source of income was abandoned as well.
Everyone wants a clean job, everyone wants to sit in an office that has an air conditioning and have a soft life, which is not bad but success or failure is not assured to anyone in life.
Putting so much confidence on education, expecting it to change our lives is a costly mistake.
I don't have anything against education, truly education has contributed immensely to our society, however it is not a holy grail as many thought it to be.
There's too much expectations on the system, everyone who goes to school thinks at the end of the day they are entitled to be great automatically but things don't happen that way. Education is just another ingredient for success but it is not the whole thing.
Sometimes it might not even be in the picture before one becomes successful. Just like it is not always we use salt to cook. Although it is very important, sometimes we can cook without it and the food will still be edible.
If you have the right orientation you would not put all your expectations in school, knowing it does not promise anyone anything.
The truth is getting a degree these days is more like just getting a certificate. One will labor and gather money to go to school only to graduate and have no job and sadly even the knowledge they acquired from it can't be applied to birth something productive.
There are many jobless graduates in the streets. These guys went to school and spent years but can't use their certificate to secure jobs and even what they learnt couldn't be of use to bring food to their table.
For me, i have been using what I learned from school to earn for quite some time. I learned how to write and read from school and I have been using it on hive to earn. This means that what I learned from school is still valid for me.
However, for the result, it has not brought any value yet but I still appreciate the knowledge I get.
Finally, what I think the school system needs to work on is stop promising people a better future instead they school focus on teaching skills that would be applicable to real life that can generate money to people after studying.
Education should be focused more practicals rather than theory and courses that can not benefit anyone or have real life application should be taken out of the curriculum.
This will empower the people to survive on their own even without the government giving anyone a job.

thanks a lot
Thanks for this, focus should be on the courses that can benefit us and not irrelevant ones. Sometimes when I hear some courses, I laugh in amazement
Lol, unfortunately, more of those courses are still coming
Gone are the days when education came along with special treatment and offers. In our present society, the only advantage of education is enlightenment, it is left for each individual to know how to make use of the enlightenment in a way that will profit them.
Seriously, it was back the that education was like gold but now things have changed, there are a lot of people in the system, we do not expect to get the same advantage like when the population was less..
Well, it has never been about the population, the issue is the decay in our education and governance structure.
That l is right Sha..
