Every human is unique in his own way. The ability to assimilate, grasp things and solve problems varies from person to person nevertheless everyone can proffer solutions to things that he/she is good at.
Intelligence is said to be one's ability to understand or assimilate principles , truth, facts and be able to apply them to solve problems they encounter in life skillfully.
Back to the question, is going to school and getting good grade, a measure of intelligence? the answer is yes, if we are to go by the meaning of intelligence, but good grades are like the rewards or should I say evidence of acquisition intelligence in that aspect of intelligence. An educated person who truly knows what he did in school is an intelligent person because he /she has acquired knowledge and skills with which he could use to provide solution to his world. But let's not get confused here it is not only through school that intelligence can be acquired, there are many kinds of intelligence of which some do not necessarily needs us to go to school before we can acquire them, for instance the ability to solve riddles, dream interpretation and the rest are also intelligence but it doesn't necessarily need a formal education. Some come as a gift from birth, Formal education can only polish that which has been in such a situation as that.
Often times I feel we have misconception on what intelligence is, that is why we feel some people are stupid but it is not so. People are intelligent in different ways, some might be intelligent in mathematics but stupid at English, others intelligent in creativity but stupid at speech. With this this, permit me to say every body is intelligent but every body is not intelligent in everything. But with training some level of it can be attained.
We over hype school in our world today, which is very good : because it has ability to give intelligence in almost everything that concerns life, let me explain a little bit. For instance in school one can learn how to cook, in school one can learn morals, in school one can learn how to build creativity maybe drawing, in school one can learn how to read, in school one can learn how to write all these are forms of intelligence but there are other kinds of intelligence we can get from outside school, some can come from experiences, others from informal education, for instance business intelligence, is not only gotten from school. There are many successful business men and women who didn't go to school, someone can sit under such a person and learn business strategies and be successful in life. Also skills are forms of intelligence that we don't know. In Nigeria, we have many mechanic engineers who are not formally educated but do their work very well. Because of the prestige school has we may be tempted to begin to feel like only those who go to school are intelligent but I disagree with that. If you want to know that the school you went to only made you intelligent on the things you know, try visit a carpenter's shop and use what you learnt in physics or English Language to create a chair. Every body is intelligent in what he is good at. We can be intelligent in doing many things apart from going to school, it all depends on what your ambition is.
School is the deal of the day in our world today we can not afford to be left behind what is trending, communication is key in everything we do. English has become one major language in the entire world. Inasmuch as we don't need Education we have no option than to give in to it because, it is not everybody that understands your dialet. But we can attest that almost every body can understand English to some extent, besides that, reading and writing is another vital thing that only school can provide . At the end we would discover that school is a necessity in our lives whether we like it or not. I am not saying pursuing education to the core but some measure of school will so us good depending on what our ambitions are, for instance if you want to be a teacher of course you have to chase education to some extent more than someone who wants to be a driver.
What am trying to say is that school might not necessarily be the source of whatever intelligence we might posses but we will need school to be able to use it well. School will add virtue and beauty to it. I don't know whether you have ever come across very intelligent people in business but they don't know how to write, read or even speak good English? Well I have and I wished they had gone to school even if it was only High school. Many of them had to miss opportunities because of that deficiency. Intelligence without school is like a very hard-working man who is having leprosy. He can not maximize his full potentials. School does not give all intelligence but it gives it splendor

Everyone is unique in different ways and we all are intelligent in our specialty. One might be intelligent in decorating while another can be intelligent is somewhere else. So for me, grades doesn't determine one's intelligence.
Yes ma, grades don't really matter. Grades are like make up to the intelligence. It's not really necessary.

Indeed... While school may not guarantee intelligence, it does have a huge role to play in the intelligence of an individual. Another reason we must take it serious.

You're right when you said one can be very good in a particular subject and poor in another.
Such was the case for me back in highschool, I was excelling in English Language and Literature but I was just average when it came to Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

I do think school enhances our intelligence though not all of it and not all kinds of intelligence can be enhanced in school... especially schools that focuses on academic stuffs
