Monetization of contents is one of the best things that has happened to social media. It did not only push people to become creative but it has also pushed many to discover themselves.
Prior to content monetization, social media was just platforms taking from people, a sort of parasitic relationship. People subscribe to their phones to access them, use their precious time to view contents and interact with friends, get addicted to screens and so on.
It was those platforms always taking from us. The benefits were like 70/30. Personally, I suffered from social media addiction at one point. It was not adding much to my life but I was giving so much: time and money.
Most of you can relate to how social media has caged people in addiction. Both the young and old. Sometimes we even look crazy, you see people walking and smiling alone, our younger ones glued to reels and short videos on TikTok.
It's not bad but sometimes it's annoying. If you calculate how much we spend just to be active on social media platforms, you would realize that we are really spending much.
Considering all these, I think monetization of contents is like a way of balancing the equation.
Instead of giving and not getting something reasonable in return, now there's an opportunity to give and also earn. A lot of people's lives have been transformed by this innovation of content monetization.
Take for instance Peller and Jarvis, prior to monetization, I didn't know them. They were probably some random people always on TikTok burning data and posting contents without getting motivation, but when monetization came, they became creative and boom, they are now enjoying the fruit of their labor.
There are a lot of people like them, talents that were hidden were given the opportunity to come to light and reward through content monetization.
However, I won't dispute the fact that some contents don't deserve to be rewarded and how lately, people are doing anything possible, going any length just to make contents that would attract attention and sincerely, some of them are really terrible.
We all need money but the chase of money shouldn't make us mad.
Although, I am not surprised at all because we can't explain the mystery between people and the love of money.
Money is one of the things that people are willing to do anything for. So, when I see crazy things online, I don't freak out.
Talking about whether content monetization makes us lazy towards physical jobs or not, we all know how difficult things are in the world right now.
I don't know for other countries but for Nigeria, getting a physical job nowadays is not easy. In some parts of the country there are opportunities but in some, there are not.
Some people are willing to work but there are no reliable jobs, what do you want them to do? I know for some people digital earnings have made them lazy towards physical jobs but for some it's not so.
We all know that digital earnings aren't reliable, they can go away anytime, the physical one is best. Only a naturally lazy person would completely rely on digital earnings and reject physical ones even when they are available.
Therefore, I don't totally agree that content monetization is the reason why people are too lazy to chase physical jobs. Anyone who is lazy chose it.
As much as content monetization has come to pave a way out for people. I think it is also fair for people to be creative and excellent in their contents.

Creating content and getting rewarded is the same as working for someone. In this case it's even for a wider audience, involving both parents and children. It's wise to create contents that are beneficial to the masses instead of something people would be struggling to get meaning out of.
This is why I feel there should be strict conditions and criteria around getting those rewards. And also I noticed that this privilege seems to be for the influential ones only and that doesn't sit well with me.
I wish it can be adjusted giving everyone the opportunity to earn no matter how small but there should be proper screening, only original and excellent contents should be rewarded.

Social media addiction is really and you spend so much and get nothing in return.
Just like you said content creation is like working for someone, there should be rules that guide content creating.
This should help in regulating the kind of contents that are uploaded and the reward of monetization.
I agree with you also, peller and Jarvis are good example,
Do you watch their post and content I see it really childish a little
