I remember when I was still little, we had this huge map of the world on the wall, from the map we were taught that the majority of the earth is covered in water, that is how magnificent water is.
We have people who are opportune to learn how to swim probably in school or took extra swimming class, while there are people who were brought up in the waterside, which means they never had to learn how to swim since it is a skill acquired naturally, well my own category is kind of in the middle.
I was never opportune to learn about swimming neither was I brought up in the waterside but I come from a long lineage of fishermen, if the folktales are true about how magnificent my people are on water, then swimming lessons are in my blood but just waiting for me to make use of it.
But then, I'm the kind of person that takes somethings very seriously, you see I was still young when I learnt that there are creatures that lives in water known as aquatic animals and there are those that lives on land known as terrestrial animals, which we humans kind of belong to that category.
When did you learn how to swim? From the analysis above, you can deduce that, some creatures have no business going near water which is why we have that demarcation. So for people like me, I'm not really fond of going near water, it is not as if I'm scared of it but not just a fan of it. Due to this reason, there was never a need for me to learn how to swim, though I have the feeling that I can, remember I said l came from a long lineage of fishermen 😅.
What is stopping me from learning how to swim? Apparently nothing but then, it is not as if I don't know how to swim at all, in fact I'm quite confidently that I can swim to a great extent but I'm not just a fan of swimming. Even if I had the opportunity to learn about swimming properly, I might not do it.
There is a reason why I have never been on a boat before, I have always wondered, why do they give people lifejacket when the sailor already assures everyone that they are in good hands? It means there is a possibility that things might not go according to plan, that is how unpredictable water is.
I have been opportune on different occasions to swim but it was never for long. There was a time me and a friend of mine went to one river close to our area just for sightseeing but we ended up going for a swim, it wasn't for long but it was a wonderful experience.
If I ever found myself in a water and needed to swim to safety, would I survive? the answer is definitely yes. It is not because I have superpowers or my swimming skills are amazing but I trust in my survival instinct. Believe me, you have never seen me trying to beat a difficult situation not to talk of do or die kind of situation, I tend to develop some kind strong Will to survive against all odds.
It is common among most humans, that is why you see people with the size of an elephant running like an antelope when they find themselves in danger trying to escape, in my own case, my survival skills are extraordinary. In fact, they are tested and trusted, I have no doubt that I will survive, even if I have to run on water.
