How I Found a New Way to Enjoy Reading

Reading has always been a part of my life, though I can’t say I’m one of those people who read every day, I read once in a while and it depends on my mood or what I want to learn at that moment, I have a friend who can read from morning till night holding her book and sipping her juice but for me reading has become something I do in different ways, the truth is I no longer read physical books as often as I used to, I now prefer digital reading, and there are many reasons for that.

I remember when I was much younger, I used to love holding a physical book, I loved how it felt to turn the pages slowly while trying to understand the story, back then there were no distractions and reading felt like an escape root for me, I could spend the whole afternoon sitting by the window side reading a novel or a storybook because no one would disturb me but as time passed, life became busier, responsibilities increased and reading physical books slowly became something I did once in a while.

Due to my busy schedule i prefer to read more on my phone, it is so easy and convenient, i can read anywhere even in a taxi, i don’t have to carry a heavy book around, all I need is my phone and i can open any article, blog, or story I want, It makes reading feel lighter and faster, i think that’s why i prefer digital reading these days, physical books are beautiful, but digital ones are simply more practical for my lifestyle.

The last physical book I read was Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe, it is a classic Nigerian novel that explores power, tradition, and the struggle between old beliefs and new ways of life, the story centers on Ezeulu, a chief priest who finds himself caught between his duty to the gods and the changes brought by colonial rule, i enjoyed the depth of the story and the way the writer painted the characters so clearly, reading it reminded me why i still respect physical books.

Even though I now read more digitally, I still have a soft spot for physical books, there’s something peaceful about sitting quietly with a book in your hands, with no screen or notification to distract you, sometimes I miss that feeling, I tell myself I’ll go back to reading more physical books, but the truth is, I haven’t done much about it, maybe one day soon, I’ll pick one up again just to feel that calm connection with a story.

Reading whether digital or physical book has taught me that learning never stops, the world keeps changing and there’s always something new to know, I may not read every day, but when I do, I make sure it adds value to my life, It could be a blog post, a short article, or even a long message that inspires me to think differently.

I think what matters most is not how often we read or what form we use. What matters is that we read something meaningful whether it’s a physical book with pages that smell like old paper or a digital story on a glowing screen, reading helps us grow in quiet ways, I may not be the perfect reader, but I still have a reading habit just in my own way.

Thanks to technology we can read from anywhere and don't have to carry load around but sometimes reading with a phone can cause distractions for me.
