The University That Gave Me More Than a Certificate

in Hive Learners2 days ago

Sometimes I sit and think about how life would have turned out if I had gone to a different university, It’s amazing how one decision or even one course can shape so many parts of our lives, I studied Geology and looking back now I can say that my years in school were more than just about books and exams, they were years of discovery, growth, friendship and love, the kind of love that changed my life forever.

When I first got my admission I didn’t have big expectations, the school wasn’t even my first choice at all but I decided to give it a chance, I still remember my first week there everything was strange and new, the environment, the people and even the way classes were run felt different from what I was used to, I was shy at first, unsure of how things would go but as time passed, the school started to feel like home.

Studying Geology came with its own challenges, we spent long hours in class and went on several field trips under the hot sun, sometimes it was stressful but I learned so much about teamwork and endurance, I met amazing people classmates who later became like family, they were the kind who lifted you up when you felt down and who made even the hardest days in school easier to bear.

Among those I met, there was one person who stood out, the man who later became my husband, we started as friends and helping each other through tough times, what began as simple friendship slowly grew into something deeper, I never imagined that school would be the place where I would meet the person meant for me, when I think about it now, I can’t help but smile at how life connects people in unexpected ways.

I also had lecturers who shaped my thinking and attitude toward life, some were strict and demanded a lot but they prepared us for the real world, I remember one who used to say, “If you can survive Geology fieldwork, you can survive anything in life.” Back then, I thought it was just a joke, but after graduation, I realized how true it was, life itself has its own “fieldwork” moments that is rough, hot, and sometimes tiring but those experiences built resilience in me.

If I had gone to another university, I might not have met those same people who shaped my journey, I might not have learned how to adapt, stay patient, or even met the man who makes my life beautiful today, that school taught me lessons that no textbook could, It taught me to appreciate little beginnings, to value real friendship, and to trust God’s timing.

Now that I’m out of school, I look back and realize that my university days were a big part of my story, It was where I found purpose, learned independence, and met love, without that university I don’t think I would be where I am today not just career-wise but emotionally and mentally.

Life might have taken a different turn if I went to another school, but I’m thankful for the one I chose, It wasn’t the biggest or the most popular but it gave me memories and people that money can’t buy, truly without that university there would be no me as I am today.

This is my response to this episode of Hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w186e03 which the topic is tagged WITHOUT THAT UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE

When the environment changes, we meet new friends and learn a lot. Be it university or college, we get to learn many things there. We also learn from books. We learn how to live.

You are right, going to school is not only about book but the connection we make and the memories we share
