It was a glamorous celebration in the town of "Ayede" in the Southwest part of my beloved country Nigeria where the sons and daughters this town came from home and abroad to celebrate the annual town festival called the "AYEDE DAY". This is an annual celebration where everyone gathers together with differences aside for the common good of the town. To celebration involved free-will donations from the sons and daughters of the town to facilitate the construction of a new palace and a new town hall ao as to replace the old fashioned and dilapitating existing ones. A huge sum of money was raised into hundreds of millions with the high hope of project completion before the next annual day celebration.

To everyone amazement and utmost surprise, the project was below par considering the money raised and several deductions/conclusions of embezzlement, mismanagement of funds where alleged of the top town leaders and the project committee members. Many sons and daughters showed there disappointment and restrained themselves from further charitable work in collectively manner for their beloved town. We can go on and cite many more examples of disloyalty, financial recklessness, corruption, fund mismanagement etc especially public funds. The more reason why accountability and responsibility should be key considerations before selecting or organising any charitable giving.
The basic attribute every human should imbibe and cherish is truth and honesty in love. This will help to be more responsible and accountable for any office or position one is holding knowing it is transient. Also, we must learn to demand accountability using the right channel from our leaders even as this will put them in check from mismanagement or squandering that put in their hands. The more reason there should be proper auditing and periodic reports showing what has been done and achieved for any donations been made. I believe that irresponsibility and unaccountability are a major contributory factor for public funds mismanagement which i believe there should be heavy sanctions for such as this would put people in check.
In advance and "sane" countries, the use of technology especially ones relating to finaces has made this easier even as for transparency sake things donations and spending can be tracked or traced for accountability. Those who mismanaged such receives heavy sanctions by financial enforcement. But in some developing nations where immunity or weak enforcement is the order of the day, the opposite is the story. Everyone must sit tight and be financially responsible and accountable knowing fully well that no matter the pressure, stealing, corruption, mismanagement is a no.
The more reason why I prefer personal donations and in a setting of corporate donation, i must be sure of a strong accountability and responsibility on the part of the organisers so as to ensure the purpose of the giving or donation is not defeated. Kindly note that the above story is fictional though painted the reality as heared of some in certain stories. Thanks so much for reading even as comments and contributions are welcomed.
