THE FIRST TOUCH: SAVING LIFE ⛑️

in Hive Learnerslast month

As widely known, first aid is the first care given to a person with a health challenge before been given a proper healthcare by the professionals. This means that anyone can give a first aid even though, some trainings are available nowadays for as many who are interested to be better positioned to administer first aid. The subject on first aid is been taught even in institutions of learning so that by the badic knowledge of it, lives can be saved from imminent loss. The need for first aid may come from sustained injuries, some unproperly managed health conditions, unforeseen circumstances etc

Personally, i learnt the basics of first aid both formally and informally even right from childhood. There are times we sustain injuries even right from home, on the sport field and other places and we saw how such cases were managed. For example, having a knife cut in the kitchen and the application of first aids inside the house is not uncommon while growing up. Also, as a prefect in both primary and secondary school, there were times students will develop injuries or develop certain health conditions where necessary first aid care was given before seeking for proper healthcare.

As times goes on and by the virtue of my professional career path, i begin to appreciate first aid care as it has saved many from untimely death. However, i also saw the other side of it where what was done under the guise of "first aid" was actually not. For example, how someone who have seizures, convulsions sometimes was been managed isn't it especially based on local believes with some putting spoon in the person's mouth or crowding the place with people and noise which all may not be too good. Also, there has been cases where patients were brought to where i had worked & am working now which i had to administer first aid to them and refer some to a higher facility as the case maybe.

I remembered how some people were rushed down to the healthcare facility I'm currently working about a month with injuries sustained from an accident and they were all attended to. I also remembered how the basic knowledge of first aid about animal bites especially snakes/scorpions are useful in managing such occurence as it happened to a roommate of mine back then in the University as he tied rope around the bite area on his leg to obstruct the venom body circulation before been rushed down to the healthcare center for proper attention.

Therefore, i can say that my knowledge of first aid is better even as i continue to learn and know more as there is no end to learning. Also, i believe that first aid should be given more priority and orientation by the government and individuals as it is a life saving skill indeed. Also, everyone should know boundaries in first aid care as this is also important. Not all first aid suggested or given are first aid indeed. Thanks so much for reading even as comments and contributions are welcomed.
