Plagiarism Is A Huge 'NO' On Hive

in Hive Learners2 years ago (edited)

Okay, I get why anyone would plagiarize or feel like doing it. Sometimes, people do it unintentionally. But at a very basic level, it is equivalent to THEFT! Plagiarism is a serious issue in the world of content creation, and it's something that every creator on Hive should be aware of.

Plagiarism is defined as someone using another person's work without giving credit to them or making it look like it was their own. The reality is that it can happen to anyone - even professional writers who are paid for their work. So if you're planning on writing on Hive or creating digital content on the internet, please mind what you publish.

Plagiarism Is A Crime

Plagiarism is considered a crime in most countries according to the law. It's a felony punishable by imprisonment in some cases. On Hive, we practice the similar law. You get imprisoned digitally on Hive in the form of Downvotes & then a low reputation score. If it goes negative, you will go like a ghost on Hive Frontends. Using various tools online, it's fairly easy to find plagiarized content. Just google and try to use it on the post you are publishing next.

  • A plagiarized blog has no credibility
  • It's not original
  • It's not unique

You will get caught in no time. Then comes the downvote rain because nobody would want to reward a fraud.

Reputation At Stake

The reputation score on Hive is not a perfect indicator of the quality of the creator. But it works well to filter out the new and old Hive members. News ones can do mistakes and old ones can point them out in the hope to see them corrected. Different factors decide how it grows or goes down. In simple terms, if an account with large HP upvotes or downvotes, depending upon their stake, it will increase or reduce your Rep score. You don't want to get downvoted on Hive at all. It's not a pleasant experience. Sometimes you get them in case someone feels that you have earned more than you deserve. That is okay! But getting downvotes because of abuse is not. Plagiarism will put your reputation at stake.

Hivewatchers Is Watching You

If you are a plagiarist, @hivewatchers is looking for you. Not to hire or applaud you but to warn and punish if it's done again and again. It is a group run by experienced developers and community members to ensure the health of Hive. Apart from dealing with abuse & fraud, they also verify profiles to ensure real, honest people are behind them. That's prevention of abuse!

Stealing Other's Work Doesn't Make Sense

It is unethical, as it is not giving credit where credit is due. Plagiarism also goes beyond copying words. This means presenting information in a way that makes readers believe that you thought of this on your own. Copying an idea is not a problem as long as you give credits to the original owner and add more value on top of it in your content. But don't copy words or deceive people. It doesn't make sense on Hive because people will find the reality and they stop supporting you. You will lose everyone's trust on the platform and it will be very hard to rebuild.

What To Do If You Are Caught?

As a new user, people make mistakes. They are in a rush to push out content just to see how it feels to earn their first dollar on Hive. If you are caught plagiarizing and have been doing it for a long time, you will definitely be blacklisted from getting a share of the rewards pool. But if it's your first time and you did it intentionally/unintentionally, accept your mistake, start fresh, and don't repeat it ever again.

Recap

  • You can't steal someone's work.
  • You need to cite your sources and give credit to the creator of the work.
  • You can't claim someone else's work as your own.
  • You can't avoid @Hivewatchers if you plagiarize or abuse on Hive
  • You can accept your mistake, learn from it and move on

Conclusion

Remember, the best way to avoid plagiarism is by doing your own research and writing. It's not about the language, grammar or vocabulary. You can express your thoughts in million different ways. Just try to be unique and keep honing your skills. Hive is a long-term game so play it with patience and honesty. Rewards will come!

This is one of my best read fro a long time now. Couldn't have said it better. But don't you think some people use it to punish others? I have seen it done here (down vote) for no reasonable reason. Another thing that would be quite fair is to tell someone the reason they are been down voted, most down voters don't do this.

Thank you so much, mate. I agree with you on the fact that some people do it out of revenge or intentionally to hurt others without no good reason. It sucks!!!

Another thing that would be quite fair is to tell someone the reason they are been down voted, most down voters don't do this.

I think if you are doing some kind of abuse or fraud then they definitely let you know the reason. But if you get high rewards on your post and they are just readjusting them with downvotes then they won't tell you explicitly.

We could talk about this forever but the issue is, some people are web2 minded, where they can get to steal memes, steal contents without proper sourcing. It gets even bigger if they're coming to a place of monetization. Because of money, it'll always remain an issue.

That's right bro. Web2 mindset doesn't help here. People need to unlearn & get their shit together.

It doesn't make even sense on Hive because if your earning is dependent on it, why would you fuck it up? Web2 mindset is short-term mindset.

It's a well-known fact that stealing is a crime, and plagiarism is no different. Here in Hive we can write about many things. There's no need to copy someone else's idea and claim it as your own.

Thankfully you mentioned that it's not really about grammar, but about the integrity of the idea behind the post. People would rather support someone who strives to post simple original content than a well-written but questionable post. 😊

That's right @devowriter. The intent matters, not the technicalities. Language is there to communicate better. You can get the message out there without being technically correct all the time. Moreover, you can learn them as you go.

it is a shame that it is so rampant on hive.

SHAME!!! xD

We can't say this enough but many people just don't want to learn. They feel it's OKAY to copy stuff wherever they want and they don't care to state the source of images used in their post. Haha.

Those are the weird ones in our midst.

Stealing doesn't work. At least not on Hive! You will get your asses burned in no time xD

Sure. Thanks and same to you :))

I can't count how many times this warning has been passed but yet, some people would still plagiarise. It hurts when it comes from people you know directly even after a warning!

They don't see the larger picture. As you said, "smiles...we move on" So focus on the ones who listen to your advice and warnings.

Thanks for always brother

This is great. It pays to be original. It adds more value and credibility

That's right. Being original is one of the hardest things to do in today's time.

Even though I am new in Hive, stealing other's work is really not a good thing. Thanks for reminding us @finguru.

It's great that you learned this early in your Hive journey. Now you can focus on publishing content and get better with each iteration.

You are right, plagiarism is an act of theft.
One of the reason a person would involve in such act is because it's very easy to copy and paste. Laziness is a thing sha...

It takes courage and integrity to actually avoid it. Some person's know nothing about plagiarism, to them it's normal and that's why this post is important, to inform others .

Thanks 🙏 for sharing ❤️

Haha. Lazy people. xD Very few good things in life come out of laziness. And on Hive, Laziness means loss of potential life-changing rewards. That's a huge price to pay.

You are absolutely right that it's important to teach people. Many newbies aren't even aware that it's not right. Thanks a lot for your comment bro. Cheers!

hivewatchers the same as the old steemwatchers ? cause there discord linkain't no longer valid on their page ;)

Yes, they are the same. Thanks for pointing it out.

You are most welcome buddy. Glad you liked it.

What I like on Hive is people (advanced users) really care in the community looking for those plagiarized contents.

Everyone should be careful and not steal someone's work.

Right mate. If you are serious about getting success then learn a skill, do hard work, and don't steal.

How about stealing the idea?😂

Plagiarism is a serious foul that is to be committed by an author on the blockchain and there stands to be lots of consequences to be faced by any person who is found guilty of such an offense.
It is quite great to avoid this act (plagiarism) to enable proper account growth.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful and educating content dear friend.

That's the way @gi-de-on 🔥 Thanks a lot for dropping by. All the very best for your Hive Journey. Cheers!

Plagiarism is actually a crime and it doesn’t add value to someone’s reputation. We can choose to be unique in our own way by putting down our thoughts. There’s a way you can tweak your researched content without using it verbatim.

Research is to give you a clue on how to put down your ideas not stealing other's work without giving credit to them.

Thanks @finguru for dishing this out to everyone. I hope we learn from this and do better.

Right. Research is important to straighten up your facts. But sometimes unintentionally put the same words in their article. I do it too. The idea is to know how you can give your own twist to the information you have gathered via research.

Thanks for your insightful comment. Cheers @temmyttee 🔥

You are actually right plagiarism is a crime .Uniqueness pays perfectly with lot of incomes when it comes to write and earn, I use to write on a site named read.cash before I was introduce to this site the site works perfectly for those who make good of it by writing unique content which makes the rewarder upvote the content uniquely.
When we write a good content it attract good tidings >MaxRosh

People like seeing unique stuff. And original is 99% of the time unique. Interesting or not, that's another story. 😂

You don't like read.cash? I have heard about it but never tried. Is it worth checking out?
