My sense of fashion is my identity, mustn't cost a fortune

in Hive Learners2 years ago

If we are asked, "What's the purpose of clothing?" I'm sure some people especially the male folks will not need to think too much to give a simple and direct reply, which is to "cover our nakedness" No doubt that was the initial purpose, but these days the reason has gone beyond that sole purpose, if not, why are some clothing not doing justice that answer, some people, especially my gender, dress and still feel as if they aren't clothed, also, have you seen the price tags on some clothing and ever wonder if these clothes are with fir the same reason you also put on your clothes, fashion is more than just a piece of apparel these days, it speaks class, tells your story, it a lifestyle, and so many, especially the celebrities are willing to pay to sustain the brand they have created for themselves through fashion.

Moving on, what about those that take ages to dress, husbands in the house will understand this one very well, as it's a common complaint in my local church, almost all men complain about their wives delaying them for Sunday service in the name of dressing to church, and if they are asked why they took so long, you will hear stories like "I don't have what to wear" or "I don't know what to wear" even though they have wardrobe full of clothes haha🤣

Someone out there is wondering how Glorydee knows a lot about this or am I even one of them? Well, my reply to that question is 50:50, on a regular day, meaning when I have no extra event to attend, just my usual activities, maybe a visit to the market or any other regular activities, my most go-to outfit is a jean and a top, maybe a favorite dress in between, since I make about 90% of my outfit, I'm not the kind of person that thinks too much or waste time before deciding on the outfit for the day. It seems like it's already planned out in my head what I'm about to wear, and maybe it is, my main purpose in putting on any outfit is to look smart and presentable at any time, my job as a fashion designer also expects this from me, but I don't take it as a duty, it comes to me effortlessly, before I went Into fashion designing, I was already a lady who likes to look prim and well presented, and it doesn't have to cost me a fortune to look good, as some still spend fortune and create a mess for themselves in the name of fashion. I have always had this adage In mind that "we are addressed the way we dress" and this has stayed with me for long and also impacted my dressing.

When it comes to extra special events or occasions such as weddings, housewarming, birthdays, etc.. I am always compelled to make a statement with my outfit, as this is how I easily attract clients without uttering a word, I let my outfit do the advertising, and it works whenever I hear them say, "Wow! I love your dress", I reply "thanks, I made them myself" while others don't even need to be told, they already know from my outfit, as the business discussion continues from there. I make all of my outfits when it comes to appearing for an occasion, and most times the planning and making process takes place months or weeks before D-day, and on D-day, I just rock my outfit to the event.

Does this affect me in any way?

Well, I would say my dress says a lot about me, and most times in a positive way, as what I wear serves as a form of an advert for me, and like I stated earlier, my sense of fashion is more like a lifestyle for me now, and No, I don't plan on changing anytime soon, as I still keep it simple and it is not of burden to me, rather it's my Identity.

As a designer yourself, you truly know a lot about fashion... And I couldn't agree more, our style says who we are..

But sometimes, the way we dress is misunderstood and we are being discriminated..
We just follow the fashion trend anyway. But I don't like those who judge people the way they dress, especially since we are already in this modern society.

I totally agree with you, everyone resonates differently with fashion, and we should all learn to not judge people's way of life as long as it is not causing any harm to the society.

True..
There are even countries with liberated people who wear almost naked clothes but they don't care a damn, only the new people in the place would think differently, lol

As a seamstress, once there is an event you need to dress gorgeously so as to attract potential customers that's understandable. But on a normal day, thinking without prior planning is okay. I like the gown you uploaded 👍

Dressing up for women is a lil bit complicated because we will have to think of a matching purse and probably shoes and all of that. It could be adilema sometimes

Wearing elegant dresses that you made yourself is a great form of advertisement. Going by the image shared, you are good at what you do.

Lol I knew you wouldn't be part of them even though you know how it is with ladies and dressing so well 😅

I always admire ladies who make their own clothes, I feel it's an amazing opportunity and I'm glad you're using yours well.

Simple, advert, positive... I love that thought behind your dressing 🤩

Women and dressing, this is one of the reasons why me and my family attend the same church but we don't arrive at church at the same time😄, my mom and my sisters take longer to prepare for church despite planning on what to wear since Friday.

It is good to look presentable especially if it serve the kind of purpose such as advertising your business and talent, it wont speak well of you if as a fashion designer you appear tattered in parties and special occasions.

But for someone like you, I wonder how you cope with your wardrobe because you can always make as many dress as you can whenever you feel like, I wonder how you control that urge.

Hehe I know right, it our way, 🤣🤣

Yeah, representing the business is very important.

The truth is we hardly have time to make our own dresses and when we do, there is always someone to waiting to collect it as gift😅😅 I don't want to mention some people's names here 😂😂

Well, I always feel like fashion designers or tailors can never run out of clothes 😅😂
