Indeed balance is key and just like you said, being intrusive can help in some instances. If your instinct tells you to intrude at any point in time, I believe it's best to do so at that time.
It's better to apologise if nothing is going wrong than for you to miss something that is going wrong right under your nose because u didn't want to intrude.

I think exactly the same way; it's better to apologize for thinking something is wrong than to just ignore it and then have something worse happen. With all that said, sometimes it's necessary to be intrusive in order to protect our children.
