My love for myths started in my early childhood. And of course, vampires were part of them. We are getting into Halloween and I start to search for TV shows and movies that I didn't watch and I know that streaming companies release some of them during this season. And I found the TV series "Interview with the Vampire" and decided to take the risk.
I started this curiosity about the vampire world reading a book series for kids called "The Little Vampire", which is a story about a regular kid who meets a kid vampire and his family. I don't remember the details of all the adventures, but maybe I will present the book to my daughter since I saw there is a newer edition with a more updated cover. And I remember a bit also about the show "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" broadcasting on TV. How I miss Sarah Michelle Gellar; she was my muse during that time. Maybe I should start re-watching the series one day.
Both aren't the best example of traditional vampire stories, even if I remember a bit. Of course, they show a bit about the behavior and weaknesses and positives of being a vampire. How to kill them and what makes them strong. But I started to learn more about it when I started to read Dracula by Bram Stoker and learned a bit more about the myth of the king of vampires. When I was 10, the first movie that my father allowed me to watch was "Interview with the Vampire". I went to the movies with him, and in addition to the feeling that I was finally allowed to watch the movie, it was about an amazing topic. That was probably the movie that made Brad Pitt to start to be famous, by the way.
Maybe I need to re-watch the movie, but I remember that with this movie I started to read the novels from Anne Rice, which always bring the vampire Lestat as the center of her novels. The new series (that started in 2022 and it is entering the 3rd season) brings again the same ecency of the movie and book, but with some differences, while Brad Pitt was a lord in the 18th century, Louis, the new Louis is a black person suffering prejudice in New Orleans in the early 1900s, portraited by Jacob Anderson (the Gray Worm from Game of Thrones, who also appeared recently in Sandman). The same topic of a journalist learning about the saga of the vampire through the years after a relationship with Lestat. In the case of the series, this relationship is very explicit and declared homosexual by the way. In the book the relationship is more implicit and of course, the 1994 movie doesn't show such clearly this intense relationship. I am in the third episode and it is OK for now.
I think if someone really likes this vampire world should try to watch the newer version of "Nosferatu", maybe one of the best horror movies that I watched in a long time. It got some Oscar nominations this year, pity it didn't win anything. It is good to see that new vampire stories are still being produced, a topic that many people thought was already being overexploited. As many myths as we know that don't exist, it is still good to sample this fantasy universe.

Talvez eu deva começar a assistir a série novamente um dia.
Ambos não são os melhores exemplos de histórias tradicionais de vampiros, mesmo que eu me lembre de um pouco. Claro, eles mostram um pouco sobre o comportamento, as fraquezas e os pontos positivos de ser um vampiro. Como matá-los e o que os torna fortes. Mas comecei a aprender mais sobre isso quando comecei a ler Drácula, de Bram Stoker, e aprendi um pouco mais sobre o mito do rei dos vampiros. Quando eu tinha 10 anos, o primeiro filme que meu pai me permitiu assistir foi "Entrevista com o Vampiro". Fui ao cinema com ele e, além da sensação de que finalmente podia assistir ao filme, era sobre um tema incrível. Esse foi provavelmente o filme que fez Brad Pitt começar a ficar famoso, aliás.
Talvez eu precise assistir ao filme novamente, mas lembro que com ele comecei a ler os romances de Anne Rice, que sempre trazem o vampiro Lestat como o centro de seus romances. A nova série (que estreou em 2022 e está entrando na 3ª temporada) traz novamente a mesma época do filme e do livro, mas com algumas diferenças, enquanto Brad Pitt era um lorde no século XVIII, Louis, o novo Louis é um negro sofrendo preconceito em Nova Orleans no início dos anos 1900, retratado por Jacob Anderson (o Verme Cinzento de Game of Thrones, que também apareceu recentemente em Sandman). O mesmo tema de um jornalista aprendendo sobre a saga do vampiro ao longo dos anos após um relacionamento com Lestat. No caso da série, esse relacionamento é bem explícito e declaradamente homossexual, aliás. No livro o relacionamento é mais implícito e, claro, o filme de 1994 não mostra tão claramente esse relacionamento intenso. Estou no terceiro episódio e está tudo bem por enquanto.
Acho que se alguém realmente gosta desse mundo vampírico, deveria tentar assistir à versão mais recente de "Nosferatu", talvez um dos melhores filmes de terror que assisti nos últimos tempos. Recebeu algumas indicações ao Oscar este ano, pena que não ganhou nada. É bom ver que novas histórias de vampiros ainda estão sendo produzidas, um tópico que muitas pessoas achavam que já estava sendo superexplorado. Por mais mitos que conhecemos que não existem, ainda é bom experimentar esse universo de fantasia.

If you like vampire stories, check out the Necroscope books by Brian Lumley. Beware: these are not the goth vampires of Anne Rice or of most portrayals inspired by her, these are mean, vicious, old style vampires. Amazing books.
