Finding weird objects in my backyard could be interesting

I already read so many interesting findings when people dig in their backyard. I heard that is common in Europe to find archaeological objects from the Roman Empire or other ancient cultures. Here in Alberta we have some probability of finding fossils from extinct animals. There are even instructions on the Royal Tyrrell Museum website on how to deal in case we find a fossil anywhere that we decide to dig. It is a possibility that can happen around here, we can even be fined if we move the fossil after finding it. Have I found something in my backyard?

Not yet. I also didn't dig so deep, so maybe thats why I couldn't find anything. For now, I could only find invasive roots from some trees that I have in the corners of it. Those roots have been growing a lot under my lawn and because of that, some sprouts of the trees have been coming up and trying to grow. That is a bit of concern since I just want to keep the middle of my backyard with grass. But what if I find something buried in my backyard?

For sure, my first feeling would be excitement, even if it is a poop fossil (Coprolite). For sure, it will be difficult to find something from human origins, since we had an indigenous ancient civilization, but they didn't built cities like many other old civilizations around the world. What if I find a space object? Maybe something that nobody could imagine? I don't believe in finding another civilization spacecraft like those that National Geographic likes to talk about in their Ancient Aliens show. But What if?

I am a scientist, and for sure I would contact someone who probably would deal better than me. It isn't an animal fossil so I wouldn't contact the Royal Tyrrell Museum, but I would call the Canadian Space Agency. Well NASA is more famous but they are from another country, right? These guys from CSA would be more entitled to act in this situation. So, if I find something in my backyard that I suspect isn't from our planet, of course, I will contact them. And for sure anyone who deals with any strange object in their backyard should do the same.

Contacting authorities that know how to deal with ancient artefacts, fossils and even out of space objects is the best thing to preserve information to be studied, in addition to the fact that we do not know what contaminants we can be exposed to while dealing with this type of object. So maybe the maximum contact that I would have with this object is perhaps taking a picture so I can appreciate this finding in our backyard.

Encontrei algo no meu quintal?

image.png

Funny, my LAST thought would be to call the authorities! Perhaps I've watched too many movies, where the authorities always bungle it and the finders end up going on the run haha. Thanks for the word 'coprolite', I didn't know there was a specific word for fossilised poo!
