Last night I finished watching Sandman season 2. When I last wrote about the TV show, I was almost at the end, in that night I watched the last episode without knowing. The season has 12 episodes, but the last episode of the saga is the 11th episode and I just realized yesterday. The 12th episode is a spin-off of the series with a single story that starts and end in the same episode. I guess the main topic of this season was Morpheus dealing with death. The death of his loved ones and the possible death of himself. But hey, how can an immortal being be killed?
For the Sandman Universe, even immortal beings like the 7 Endless can die, but it is an exception in certain circumstances that I don't want to bring to this text. The author bring to Sandman Universe that for every rule there is an exception. And it is interesting since we know that most of the natural rules have exceptions. So that concept was also transported to a fantasy story. Last post I talked about Morpheus's oldest brother. But the spin-off was about one of his sister,s which by coincidence of the topic is Death.
In the TV show, death doesn't look scary. It is a girl, a very supportive sister. But she plays an important role to close Morpheus' saga in the 10th episode. And the spin-off brings her an exceptional day. Every 100 years, the endless have the permission to live a normal human life for 24h, without the need to execute their duties. In this story, she met a journalist who wants to kill himself in the beginning of the episode. For what reason? He is depressed because the world is full of problems such as wars and famine.
I was reading one of these days how social media plays an important role for depression and anxiety. Many people get mental health problems due to bad news that always appears while we are scrolling social media. Sometimes these problems get so much amplification by influencers that we get depressed. And that is what is happening with this journalist. He hears so much about how world is bad, so why ne can keep living within it? So he met death on her day off.
During her day off, the journalist and death went through adventures that he realizes that living his life isn't bad and that there are people who really pass through difficulties that probably would have an excuse for suicide, but they are still happy living their lives.
The episode ends with death finishing her day off, which is mostly her human avatar dying. When going back to the duties, she comments that she loves that experience once every 100 days and how she finds humanity interesting. Probably what she loves is the diversity and how we can learn and deal with problems.
Ontem à noite terminei de assistir à segunda temporada de Sandman. Quando escrevi sobre a série pela última vez, eu estava quase no fim; naquela noite, assisti ao último episódio sem saber. A temporada tem 12 episódios, mas o último episódio da saga é o 11º, e só percebi ontem. O 12º episódio é um spin-off da série com uma única história que começa e termina no mesmo episódio. Acho que o tema principal desta temporada foi Morpheus lidando com a morte. A morte de seus entes queridos e a possível morte dele mesmo. Mas, ei, como um ser imortal pode ser morto?
No Universo Sandman, até seres imortais como os 7 Perpétuos podem morrer, mas é uma exceção em certas circunstâncias que não quero trazer para este texto. A autora traz para o Universo Sandman que para cada regra há uma exceção. E isso é interessante, pois sabemos que a maioria das regras naturais tem exceções. Então, esse conceito também foi transportado para uma história de fantasia. No último post, falei sobre o irmão mais velho de Morpheus. Mas o spin-off era sobre uma de suas irmãs, que por coincidência do tema é a Morte.
Na série de TV, a morte não parece assustadora. É uma menina, uma irmã muito solidária. Mas ela desempenha um papel importante para encerrar a saga de Morpheus no 10º episódio. E o spin-off traz a ela um dia excepcional. A cada 100 anos, os infinitos têm a permissão de viver uma vida humana normal por 24 horas, sem a necessidade de cumprir suas obrigações. Nesta história, ela conhece um jornalista que quer se matar no início do episódio. Por qual motivo? Ele está deprimido porque o mundo está cheio de problemas como guerras e fome.
Eu estava lendo um dia desses sobre como as mídias sociais desempenham um papel importante na depressão e na ansiedade. Muitas pessoas têm problemas de saúde mental devido às más notícias que sempre aparecem enquanto navegamos pelas redes sociais. Às vezes, esses problemas são tão amplificados por influenciadores que ficamos deprimidos. E é isso que está acontecendo com este jornalista. Ele ouve tanto sobre como o mundo é ruim, então por que alguém pode continuar vivendo nele? Então, ele encontrou a morte em seu dia de folga.
Durante seu dia de folga, o jornalista e a morte passaram por aventuras que o fizeram perceber que viver sua vida não é ruim e que existem pessoas que realmente passam por dificuldades que provavelmente teriam uma desculpa para o suicídio, mas ainda assim são felizes vivendo suas vidas.
O episódio termina com a morte encerrando seu dia de folga, que é basicamente a morte de seu avatar humano. Ao retornar ao trabalho, ela comenta que adora essa experiência a cada 100 dias e como acha a humanidade interessante. Provavelmente, o que ela ama é a diversidade e como podemos aprender e lidar com os problemas.

Yes it is but you know i dropped main stream media… i only follow ground news which give me an ai summarization of a news using multiple sources… but social media is the worst!!! At least here on hive i dont see much about this shit
