The strong Niagara Falls

If you guys read my post two weeks ago, finally I will post a bit about my travel to see my family. I would say that in general was a good visit, good to establish some bonds. My parents, my brother and I haven't been reunited at the same time for probably more than 8 years already. We went to my brother's house in Hamilton, Ontario, and of course, he wanted us to visit Niagara Falls.

The entrance of the visitor center in Niagara Falls from the paid parking lot.

It was an easy 50 min drive from Hamilton. We had to choose carefully the day since Ontario was having so many bad weather days, snow, freezing rain, or regular rain. Finally, we got the December 30th a day with no precipitation at least in the morning. It was cold and near the falls, worse since it is an open space, and there was some wind, making the real feeling colder. The drive was easy, but my heart suffered a bit when I saw the parking prices for the waterfall. You don't pay to go to the waterfalls, but the parking is a crazy value of 36 Canadian Dollars. That is mostly the cost of a whole McDonald's lunch for a family of 4.

IMG_2696.JPEG

It was very cold with so much ice and snow in the surroundings, but the Horseshoe Falls were still pretty liquid.

From the parking lot, you can go to the nearest access going through the big visitor center, you go down one level and exit through a door that goes directly to the first waterfall. The visitor center has a restaurant that it was closed because it was morning, has some other places to eat and drink coffee and other ways to spend money, like a shop and virtual experiences through the waterfall. I didn't check the price of anything since I didn't want to spend more money.

The visitor center exit gives direct access to the Horseshoe Falls, which is the largest one. Niagara Falls is composed by 3 different falls, and the other two are American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Niagara Falls are located in the city of ... Niagara Falls. The city is split in Half by a Canadian in the province of Ontario and an American Part in the state of New York. I just stayed in the Canadian area. I heard that in the US area, there is a cave where you can touch the mist of falls, but I could feel the mist also, since it was windy, it was "raining" literally where we were. It was very cold and worse with the droplets of water.

IMG_2699.JPEG

The wind was making things difficult for us to see with so much water spray coming toward us.

IMG_2703.JPEG

The Horseshoe Falls is indeed beautiful.

I think also that we have a better panoramic view of the American/Bridal Veil falls since they are on the American side, it is better to see them from the other side. Bridal Veil Falls is so much smaller than the American Falls that I thought they were part of the same falls, but no, they are a bit separated. A bit ahead, we could also see the famous Rainbow Bridge, which looked more gray on that day. I heard that it has this name because when you cross it, you can see rainbows in the falls, of course in a sunny day.

The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls (the tiny falls in the red circle). Also, you can see on the left side of the rainbow bridge and some buildings in the US area.

IMG_2694.JPEG

The whole Rainbow Bridge a famous connection between Canada and the USA.

I went walking with my sister-in-law to get a better view and picture from the American and Bridal Veil Falls, the rest decided to go to the visitor center because of the cold. We didn't stay there, not even 40 minutes, I think. After that we returned to my brother's home to have lunch. Probably now I can say that I visited almost all the beautiful places in Canada from the East to the West. But if you love falls, you probably would love the Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay.

As Cataratas Americanas e as Cataratas Bridal Veil (as pequenas cataratas no círculo vermelho).

That is so awesome and some great pictures. Glad you were able to visit with family. My oldest son used to live outside Buffalo, New York and we were able to see the Falls when visiting them. It was a spectacular site to take in.

He probably like snow hehe Buffalo has some good inches of snow during the winter right?

It does have lots of snow in the winter. He loved living there and would love to go back some day.

 yesterday

You got some great photos of the falls!

Sending you some Ecency curation votes!

The place helps even with a bad weather 🤣

Niagara Falls looks so majestic in winter, so beautiful.

And I've heard so much about Iguazu Falls from people I met on my recent travel. I think I need to add it to my lisy

I went there a long time ago....I should go again if possible... I still have some pics and what I liked the most is that the falls are inside a National Park so you have all that forest experience plus the big falls which you start going up in stairs in the Brazilian side, in the Argentinian side you also get a different view from the top.

Wow!! Niagara fall is just the beauty 😍 and the wind makes it more aesthetic....

Yeah the parking prices were really high there but i think many places like that even here cost too much parking and we pay the price happily 😁

you're lucky who witnessed all beautiful places of Canada from east to west ❤️

the world has so many wonderful places to visit :) Even in Brazil I didn't go to all of them...

Yeah even in Pakistan i didn't go to all of the beautiful places

I remember going to Niagara Falls. We spent a couple of days on the American side, then a week on the Canadian side. You can't see much of anything on the American side. They all face Canada.

However, I enjoyed the American side as I got to go to the island between the falls.

My favorite part was going behind the falls and seeing the "backside of water." It was on the Canadian side in some sort of cave.

Probably to explore all the options is better to go when the weather isn't so cold hehehe I forgot to mention but it was a bit slippery because of the ice in the pavement, and I saw them pouring salt when I was there.

Niagara falls are beasts, you feel like dust near them

I hope to visit them some day but with the cold and ice they look really cool

yeah just wear a good jacket! I heard that if it goes through days of -20s temps it can totally freeze!

I would freeze too at that lol

This waterfall is truly a legend! Everyone dreams of seeing this phenomenon. America is too far for me for now. Thanks for your impressions 😊
