When I saw this post early in the morning, I began to wonder about the article I would write today. The reason I waited for a long period of time before writing this article is that Africans do not really value pets like Western world.
My father had a cat as a pet, he was using the cat to kill all the rats inside the house. This is the one usefulness of cats in Africa. Though, not everybody is in this category; some Africans really love pets and they gave the pets names while some keep pets at home for certain reasons.

Dogs are an investment or meat; In my tribe, dog is the best meat; my tribe cherished dog meat more than any other domestic animal. Hence, 70% of people
Why is a dog an investment? If you see people that are rearing foreign dogs in my environment, they are using it for business. Dogs are my childhood friend's big time business and investment. That's his business up till now and he's making a living from it. He has different species of foreign dogs both male and female. He employed people to help him because he has plenty of them.
Dogs are used for hunting
In my environment, some of the local Dogs are used for hunting. According to my experiences and opinions, hunters do have plenty of local dogs; the purpose of having plenty of dogs is to hunt. The one I knew 10 years ago had5 dogs; he used all the dogs for hunting. He doesn't buy meat in the market, and he sold bush meat to people.
For Security
In my present environment, the majority of people are using dogs for security purposes. Since my country's security is not good, a thief can come anytime. Some people bought Dogs for security reasons since dogs are loyal to their owners.
For Meat
Dog meat is like gold in some areas in my country such as Ondo state. We love dog meat; dog meat is our best meat. I can't forget when I was in school- dog meat was sold in different places.
It is a source of protein for us, we derived pleasure from eating dog meat.
For Pet: pet is an animal that is kept for companionship and pleasure. Few people kept dogs as companions; the majority of people that rearing dogs are not for companionship in Africa. They rear them for certain reasons.
I have read that people from Western world keep pigs, goats, dogs, cats, pigeons, squirrels, and many more as pets.
Here in Africa, only few people kept those animals as pets.
Few days ago, I told my friend that I'm getting a foreign dog for her. She said, “You should get me 10 chicks instead of a dog. I understand that a foreign dog can buy many chicks but just get me 10.”

I read about the healing power of pets by @vickvan. I understand the reason why some people love pets. Pets are like best friends to some people- some people have pets to ease their loneliness.
There was a grandma in my area with a cat, the cat was her best friend. The woman died 3 days after her cat was killed by some boys in that area.
Report gathered the cat was only her friend, she always played with it every time. The moment the cat was killed, she was lonely and depressed. She couldn't withstand the loneliness and depression for three days, so she gave up.
Pets are very important to some people depending on the reason they used them for: pets can be a source of joy and happiness to some people; pets can be a source of strength or solutions to their health challenges.
I have seen young ladies holding dogs on the streets. They are very happy moving with their pets. I understand the kind of emotion they feel with their pets. They are very happy!
In conclusion, pets are very good but depending on what you are using them for. Some people love pets around them, they sleep in the same room and bed with their pets; and some people hangout with their pets.
The reason they did that is that they derive pleasure from their pets. Pleasure in the form of health benefits, emotional support, fitness, friendship, companionship, and many more.
I stand up for success, and success is not achieved by merely making mouth, No room for laziness, no room for idleness. Success comes to the people who are desperately and consciously searching for it. When it seems unsuccessful or you smell failure around you, never discourage yourself from being successful.

Dog have great advantage even with cats although sometimes they don't get along easily. Akwa Ibom we love dog meat believe me or not it's the best you can enjoy

Ondo people eat dog meat? Meanwhile I was thinking you were from Calabar, because it's them that are well known for eating dog meat. As for me, I don't like the idea of using dogs as food, I only see them as pets and I can't ever bring myself to eating dog meat, I will just still with regular cow, chicken and goat meat
